Worth upgrading ASUS V6600 to GeForce2 MX no-name?

A friend of mine wants to upgrade his graphics card from an ASUS V3400. He wants a new ASUS, because he has the ASUS shutter glasses as an add-on for his V3400. Problem is, even MX ASUS cards cost over $200+VAT here. On the other hand, an MX card from some no-name company will cost $130+VAT, or maybe even less.

Since I have an ASUS V6600 Pure (GeForce SDR), I was thinking that maybe I could sell him this card, and buy that MX card myself, since I don't particularly care about the specific brand. That would still mean that I'll have to pay something (since I'm not going to sell him my 1 year old card for $130+VAT). (BTW, haven't talked about this with my friend yet.)

Question is, do you think that such an upgrade is worthwhile for me, assuming that I have to pay about $50 for it?

I'm not a power gamer, and the GeForce SDR is pretty decent for me in that respect. I do write OpenGL and find T&L useful, so improved T&L could come in handy. The other advantages are register combiners, and taking a slightly lesser toll on my UPS. BTW, I don't overclock the GeForce, and won't overclock the MX.

BTW, this may end up a moot question, since he has an LX board, and it might have problems with the GeForce's high power requirements. Is there any chance that testing the GeForce with his computer will result in damage to the board or the card?

Yes and no. Performance wise, not much of a difference. However, you can get the 7100/2V1D and play around with Twin View which would be pretty cool. Since the Geforce 2 MX uses 1/4 the power of your 6600, it might be more stable later on when you want to upgrade your PC.

Edit. I wouldn't give him the 6600 if he is using an LX chipset. Don't think it will run that stable.

Well, I won't get the V7100, because these ASUS cards cost over $200. That's why I'm planning on a no-name card. My interest is only in helping my friend upgrade for cheap, and improving my own hardware a little at the same time.

After reading again the VisionTek GeForce2 MX review, and assuming that the no-name MX I get performs about the same, this doesn't seem like a real upgrade (this card is even slower than the GeForce in some things), so I'll forget about it.
