Hello

Im thinking of upgrading my Graphics Card 1x8800GTS 684Mb and my processor E6600 with a 2x 8800GT 1Gb and a E8400 processor.

I currently have
1 X Striker Extreme (680)
4GB 1066 Memory
Vista 64bit Ultimate.

Ive read the 8800GT is good for the money.

Would I run into any installation problems? the Striker Extreme Supports 1333 FSB, so the processor should run sweet.

The fan on the 8800GTS failed, and Im having to run another vent off the MoBo.

Any one have similar config?

Thanks.

Yes (CPU and GPU anyways).

I went with a 4870 for the video card upgrade. Not planning on doing anything about the CPU though. In my case, the only truly intensive thing I do is game, so the only thing I really require out of the CPU is that it not be a bottleneck for my GPU (most of my games are FPSs and racing games). I'll probably be putting the money towards my Nehalem fund.

Thanks Amber.
Im more bound with the SLI on the Striekr Extreme... Since it seems performance wise 2 GT aer on par with the new 280 and they cost LESS than one card it seems the way to go for me. I also want to get my first SLI rig, just for the fun of it.

Processor wise, im seeing the price of the E8800 is lower than the E6600, which comes as a surprise. But I suppose this is due to the number of ppl who have boards which support 1333Mhz Processors.

Maybe in a year or two I might upgrade to a completely new system. But I think with this config I really dont need to upgrade any further. It was a good option to get x16 SLI.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, the E6600 is a first-gen Core 2 CPU -- it's been around for around for a good two years now (since even before the Q6600s), and back then, it was a whole new design, which is why these days, it seems comparatively expensive. Whole new architecture back then.

@Borealis You were right the first time it is the 880GTS 640.

@Amber, I meant the store where I buy components sells the E6600 more expensive than the E8800!!!

Now Ive been thinking. Since seeing prcies for the GT I realized the GTS 640 is stil selling. Would it be better to SLI the GTS? I would need to get the first one fixed, but that shouldnt be too much of a problem.

Any comments on the difference between GT SLI and GTS 640 SLI, the GTS has a wider bus width (Borrealis Correct me on this one ;) ) of 320bits compared to the 256 bits of the GT. So even if it is older card, it still should out perform the GT...

Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure the GT outperforms the old G80 GTSs...

What's wrong with your GTS? What needs to be fixed?

The fan failed! And Ive had to install a temporary fan powered by the MoBo, so its static. It doesnt vary as it isnt controlled by the Graphics Card...
