Worth the upgrade?

I currently have an eVga 7900GTO card with 512mb DDR3 memory. I'm not an avid gamer but do like to play the occasional game now and then like Crysis and Far Cry2. Is it worth upgrading this card to an nVidia 8 or 9 series? Will I notice that much of a difference?

For those games yes it can make a big difference indeed.

If you can swing the price of a GTX 260 c216 you'd have a card that could last you a long time. I only say this because you aren't an avid gamer, as you mentioned and I'd lean toward something that won't have you looking to upgrade yet again when the next game comes along that catches your eye. I would get something like a GTX260 or ATI 4850 and hold on to that for a while.

I'm checking out evga website right now and see a few different versions of the GTX 260 Core 216. THere is "Superclocked", "HC16" and then just "Core 216". Besides the price what are the differences and which do you recommend? I also see some are referenced as Core 216 and some others are just GTX 260 and 280. Now I'm getting confused.

If you want to spend the money then go for the higher clocked version. If you're on a budget then just go for the stock clocked and you can overclock it yourself. I went from a 7800GS to a 9800GTX+ and the difference was night and day. I wish I would have waited though cus the 260's dropped in price fast.

Thanks for all the feedback. After taking it all in and doing some additional reading I went with the eVga GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked for $230! Can't wait to see the difference with Crysis!!
