Hey.

I wanted to upgrade mt gateway GT5228 to be a somewhat of a gaming pc. As of now it has the on board crappy 6100 graphics, 2gb 533 MHz DDr2 ram, and Athlon X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz (running @ 2.6 with ntune overclock utility). I already did some external mods such as add a window and added internal lights and fans to up the cooling somewhat.

so what i wanted to do was get 4gb ocz 800MHz ram, an althalon 6000+ 3.1 GHz or 5400 Black edition 2.8Ghz , new 500w psu, and a Diamond HD 4850 which seems to the best single slot card out there (i'm open to suggestions on other vid cards it just has to be single slot)

as for games i'm trying to play are NFS pro st, COD 4-5, crysis, far cry 2

what do you guys think? suggestions? is it worth it?

You could start with just the PSU and 4850, the existing 2 GB RAM / 2.6 GHz CPU may be fine under XP.

Sounds pretty solid to me, got a 64 bit OS for total ram usage?
PSU and video card upgrades would be a definite improvement. More ram never really hurt anybody (unless it limited your overclock mayhaps), and a faster cpu is always nice. I'd go for it even if you have a 32 bit OS since ram is just so cheap these days.

It doesn't matter. For ~$40 you can get good quality 4GB RAM and just keep it when you upgrade your OS later down the road.
