Worth the upgrade? Intel Core Duo T2250 > Core 2 Duo T5600

they both have 2MB L2Cache and the difference in clock speed is 1.73 and 1.83, besides the fact that of course the one is last generation core tech. it's more than difficult to find beches on laptop parts so anyone's opions/expiriences would be welcome.

. . . because i know someone will ask: i will be using the laptop for school stuf mostly, with the ever so occasional game every now and then. i'm an art major so i school use includes things like photoshop.

oh, and also i think the T2250's got a 533 fsb as opposed to a 677MHz
 
look around at some benches the gain isn't worth the cost of a new cpu for realitivly no gain at all "well not that you would be able to even notice anyway 2-5% gain at best, normally you would wait until your cpu reaches a point where its struggling to perform routine tasks then the price of a new cpu is justified for the added gain in performance so buying a new cpu now wouldn't really do anything performance wise you want that added 2-5% gain just overclock your cpu and save your cash for when its a justified cause to upgrade.
 
you'll see like a 5-15% increase in performance, nothing noticeable (you won't be bottlenecked in the first place). the only benefit you'll get from going to the T5600 is that the T5600 is core2duo and so it can run 64-bit Operating Systems
 
ah yes, i forgot about that 64-bit bit. and raptorrage, i doubt there would only be a 2-5% increase since there was more than that in many of the benches that put the core duo against the core 2 clocked at the same speed.
 
Ehh, I don't think I'd go from the T2250 to the T5600 unless I got an absolutely killer deal on the T5600. There would be a difference, but probably not enough to justify the cost. At least consider going to the T7200...it'll not only be a bigger increase in clock speed from the T2250, you'll double the amount of cache as well.

The T7600 (2.33) and T7400 (2.16) Core 2 Duo CPUs are much more expensive than the T7200. The 2.00 GHz 4MB T7200 is definitely the sweet spot IMO.

agreed. T5500 for the budget end, T7200 if you have a little more to spend. T5600 is pointless, really. i didn't mention this but i think the T2250 has a 533MHz bus and may have other modifications (for the worse).

what laptop are you looking at?
 
I think I read from somewhere (either from anandtech or tomshardware) that core duo and core 2 duo in notebook don't differentiate much in terms of performance and battery life due to motherboard limitation.
 
Your battery life will go up about 2%, and performance will go up at least 10%. The clock speed increase is 6% and the bus, along with cache improvements will bring it up more.
 
I read all users very carefully. And all have a good opinion. So in my opinion core duo and core 2 duo in notebook not big distinguish much in terms of performance and battery is also limitation.
