Worth the $$ to upgrade cpu?

For the last couple of years, I have been using a Phenom 9650 (overclocked a mere 200mhz to 2.5ghz), along with 4gb of ddr2. I tend to do a bit of video encoding, but not much gaming.

I can buy a PhII 925 from a local fellow for $90, which is a drop-in upgrade for my motherboard (with the latest BIOS). I would try to get at least 3.0-3.2ghz out of the 925. Assuming I could sell my 9650 for about $45, do you guys think the $45-50 upgrade would be worth it? TIA.

It may be a good deal but I doubt your encode times will improve by more than 15%.

If you are looking for a greater boost (and expense) you should be able to compare your proc with something like the Phenom II X6 1035T 95w at 2.6GHz in less than a month.

I'm hoping it will hit 3-3.2GHz :)

That sounds like a good idea, but my board is an older 690g motherboard. I feel lucky that it has been updated enough to be able to run the 925. It might be asking a bit too much to expect it to be able to run the 6-core cpu, plus I don't feel like spending alot of $$, or going through the hassle of changing out a motherboard that has served me well so far.
