i know my SLi configuration is gettin a lil bit long in the tooth, but at the same time i'm not playin any of those games (directx 10 etc.) that'll bring my cards to their knees. i see that the 8800GS is more than reasonable @ $150, so i was wondering is it worth the effort to sell the old 7900's and move on up to the era of the double X.

You should be able to get 60 bucks for each of them cards, so yea its worth it. Be carefull though ,the 8800gs's are not going to be around to long if you want to sli them later.

I would just look at the 9600GT if that is the price range you are looking for. Otherwise, wait a few weeks for the 8800 series to start getting price cuts.

I agree here, if your looking at forking out 300 on a sli/crossfire rig. 9600gt sli is the way to go.

that is the thing that concerns me, SLi in the future with the 9600GT basically replacing the 8800GS, i'm sure they're gonna be hard to come by. but i do see that egg has got the 8800GS for 130 after rebate. that's pretty good, i would be able to possibly upgrade without spending more that 20 bucks, hard to resist. . .

If you will be SLI-ing in the future the 9600GT is a nice investment, not only because they are going to be around for longer but because of their lower TDP they should be less of a hassle to SLI, not to mention they are faster so they should prove to be nice for a long term computer.

I would go the extra mile for the 9600GT if you plan to SLI in the future, if not, the 8800GS is priced really nicfely.

There's absolutely no reason to upgrade o a $200+ card if you aren't playing any games that stress your current system.

Selling the two for 120 and picking up an 8800GS isnt a bad idea though since even if you dont tax the 8800 either at least you'll
have a single card solution and still better performance.

the 8800GS seem like a bad deal to me, the 9600GT make a lot more sense, as single card or SLI (now or later).

I would upgrade now while your cards are still worth SOMETHING. Give them time to release the entire GF9 series and the resale price (ebay) will drop significantly. So sell them now, but a decent card, and upgrade later again. (or buy a second such card for SLI)

Check out the 8800gs's benckmarks. It's not much slower then a 9600gt.
Except at very high resolutions.
You can get a 9600gt for 177.00$ shipped or a 8800gs for 155.00$ shipped and use the rebate to get it cheaper.

about the 9600GT, the least expensive option i've seen is 175 shipped. that's $45 difference between the 8800GS (w/ rebate). now i know the 88GS is slower but not forty-five dollars worth slower. i feel like the only real practical advantage in me gettin the 96GT is availability later for SLi. and even there i don't really mind stalkin eBay for a couple weeks to find an old 8800GS.
