Worth the change/effort/time/upgrade?

I have a Gainward Geforce 4 TI4200 128MB video card atm (Golden Sample, no DVI, TV-Out). I was thinking of swapping it for a Radeon 9500 128MB non-pro and trying the Soft-Mod to 9700 trick. What I want to know is if the mod fails, will the 9500 still be as good/better than my TI4200? I won't be out any cash for this mind you, I just want to know if it's worth my time. LMK your opinions guys. :)

Performance should be about the same as you have. Probably a little better, as the drivers for the 9500's are relatively new, so I would expect increases in performance as the drivers mature. I personally would make the swap. You can go here and see how the performance varies amoung these cards.

Hope that helps, but if it won't cost you anything, then why not?

I think the basic answer to this and similar questions lies in how much value you place in AA and Ansiotropic filtering.

If you want to enable them, the difference will be huge. If not, it wouldn't be worth the switch.
