No, it's not worth it at all unless you need to spend money for the sake of spending money. Overclock the GTX 260 Core 216 and have nearly the performance of a GTX 285. Don't waste your money!:)

Since you are gaming at 1680X1050, I don't see the need for a gtx 285. You might not even see any performance difference whatsoever. If you were at 1920X1200 and higher, the step up would have probably worth it, otherwise you spend quite a lot of money on a minimal increase in performance.

Save the money and start saving for a 24/26" monitor. What brand gtx260 ? If overclocking is covered by the warranty, overclock the shit out of it, and you will come awfully close to gtx285 speeds.

I just recently stepped up from a 65nm GTX 260 (192sp) to a 55nm GTX 260 (216sp) for like $17 (was like $9.50 to ship it to them, then $7.50 for them to ship to me, my card actually retailed for more). I felt like that was a good deal.

Like the above poster asked, how much will the step-up cost? Hard to answer your question when we don't know the negatives of your consideration.

Simple answer. No

Like others have said, you need to step up your resolution before more hardware is really necessary.
