I kept my GBA even when everyone else was jumping on the DS bandwagon. Picked up FF4 Advance, mostly for the nostalgia but also to see how badly they fucked up the original game. Was surprised to see they didnt mess anything up but I'm not sure I wanna waste my time with the special area on Mt Ordeals.

Has anyone else actually bothered to go through these areas? I seem to recall the special zones in FF1 had ridiculous bosses and insanely overpowered rewards, like a staff that casts Nuke for free. Kinda killed gameplay after I got that. Are the goodies overpowering in FF4?
Can I fight Zeromus with my alternate party of Cid, Yang, Palom and Porum?
I am still in the crystal cave fighting Ogopogos so I dont know if I wanna venture back or not.

FFIV is hard as hell so I never found it to be fun.

Cecil is pretty much the only char that can consistently do massive damage so even random encounters take forever.

The extra dungeon was so hard I just wound up quitting.
For the record, I completely beat FFV and FFVI advance.

Not to be critical but I dont think you were playing it correctly.

Did you get the Holy(white) spear for Kain?
Did you get the masamune and mursame for Edge? Or the Artemis bow and arrows for Rosa? Did you get Rydia's Odin, Leviathan, Sylph, and Bahamut?
Did you put Edge in the front row with Cecil and Kain?
Cecil is actually one of the less capable characters unless going up against an undead enemy that takes extra damage from his white swords, like the Sword of Light, Excalibur and Ragnarok/Crystal sword.
Rydias Mist Dragon routinely does more damage than any of Cecils weapons and its so cheap to cast she can do it all the time.

I found the original on SNES to be quite easy. ...and Kane or Edge dolling out most of the damage.

The extra areas on the moon where pretty difficult. What made it more annoying was you needed cerain characters to open certain doors which meant exiting the dungeon, then going back in with that character. I didn't bother with it.

Don't forget spamming Edge's throw ability for massive damage. Also, Kane could Focus and be completely brutal as well. You're just playing it wrong if Cecil is doing all the damage.

If by Kane you mean Kain, no he couldn't focus. He could jump, but that took up two turns for him and sometimes its just better to fight. The main reason to have him jump was to keep him out of the way of attacks. The time you're underground and get assaulted by Golbez its possible to have Kain in the air and not get instantly killed by the Shadow Dragon.

If you meant Yang, yes he could focus and do lots extra damage.

What does keeping your GBA have anything to do with it?

DS has the ability to play GBA games.

And the only real problem that I had with FFIV Advance was the glitch/bug regarding the timing/cycle of characters' and enemies turns. Sometimes you get 2 attacks in a row when you shouldn't, and mobs would attack before it was their turn.

Sorry, meant Yang on focus and Edge could throw stuff. Gosh that was a messed up post I made.

Edge could do some mean damage too once he got a couple of endgame swords.
