worth messing with? laptop lcd repair

HP DV7 6036cl(might be a different model)

Got this given to me and was just curious if you guys think it's worth it for me to purchase a screen to maybe restore it. battery seems to hold a charge. powers on like normal but shows this white display when the screen turns on. I did try hooking it up to my CRT monitor but no luck. Will try again tonight. A screen for it is around $70 but if the descriptions of what I have here are enough for you guys not to look into restoring it then that's good enough for me.

I agree with bruceb, if you can get an external screen working (i.e the LCD panel is faulty) it might be worth your time and effort to replace the screen, if not then you need to attempt to fix the software and if that doesn't work use it as a paperweight.

Turn Laptop off, hook up to external LCD, turn laptop on.
Do you see anything on the external LCD?

White LCD might be cause by discounted LCD cable.

Alright guys, update. I got it to turn on with my CRT monitor. I just had to turn it on and close the lid. BIOS works, even loaded into windows 7 on the old install. It has a short in the power area. You have to wiggle the cord until pretty little LED light glows out of the side. BUT, working just fine. Can't get it to boot off of hiren's 10.0 disk for some reason. Might just sell it as is.

You have an lose DC Jack, you going to have to resolder that.
Open the LCD and re-seat the cable see if that helps.

Haven't soldered before... Might look into it. Will check out the LCD sometime soon. Thinking of just throwing it on ebay with the current description.
