Worth it to upgrade to HDMI for 360?

I have an older 360 Pro that I run by component to my 720p Mitsubishi HD1000U projector on a 92” screen. Games look alright on it but don’t seem as sharp as they should. I also have a computer hooked up to the screen via HDMI (DVI to HDMI) and the screen looks great. Is it worth it to get a newer 360 with HDMI output? I’ve read yes and no but figured I’m come to the guys that actually have brains (this forum) and ask you all first-hand your experiences with going from component to HDMI.

Thanks.

I didn't notice any difference when I went to a Falcon chipset. and I also use a HD70 projector as my main display.

I made the same switch a couple of years ago and didn't see any difference. Of course, the cabling is easier to deal with so I prefer HDMI regardless.

I have both an older 360 and a newer one with HDMI, and quite honestly I cannot tell the difference visually on my 1080p plasma. The big difference to me is cable routing ease. I have an HDMI switching reciever so I basically route all signals through the reciever.

Is it possible the 92"(!!!) screen along with a better configured video card on the computer is making the difference? 92" doesn't leave much to be hidden.
I also saw very little difference if any when I switched, although it enabled a few other options in the XBox's setup for video that I have no clue what they do.

I'm still on SD, but just to cover a couple of doh points. The end of the cable that goes into the xbox has a slider for SD / HD you might want to double check that it's set to HD. Maybe double check any settings in the xbox that may appear for HD.

No it's not worth it at all. Most people won't even notice the difference in image quality between component and HDMI. It's not worth it to spend a couple hundred bucks just for that. HDMI does let you do things that component can't but many games don't support 1080p either.

If your pro sounds like mine did, then a new arcade would be worth it. I used to hate using my old 360 due to the noise it made, but now it's great.

I think it's worth it if you buy a Jasper model as they're more reliable. I think it depends what you're using your 360 for. If it's a primary DVD player as well, than HDMI will be worth it. AFAIK, you need it to upscale.

it was worth it for me because i wanted 1 single cable driving 1080p and 5.1 audio. besides, why use an analog connection for an hd capable device? :) however my first xbox 360 i bought was an arcade and it already had hdmi, so i was set to begin with.

however, is it worth buying a totally new xbox if you already have an xbox 360? i would sell the one you have, and use the money left over for a 360 arcade or elite. :)

Well, HDMI offers up more output options for you to puck through for black level. Other than that there isn't much it gives. However, many TVs will not do 1080p through component. So if you really want 1080p for the few titles that have 1080p or are watching HD-DVD movies through your Xbox, then you want HDMI.

Well, HDMI also allows for upconverting DVDs and to download and watch TV shows and movies from the 360 in 1080p.

That said, it's probably not worth the expense to upgrade from a non-HDMI 360 to a 360 with HDMI. Just buy the VGA cable instead.

I dont notice a difference on my 1080i Plasma, so I use component to keep a HDMI open for something else (only have 3 HDMI)
