I was considering upgrade from my Phenom II x4 940 to X6 since microcenter is having this deal where if you got both X6 and the mobo for around 200. I think if i sell my cpu, mobo and 4 gig ram i can get around 200-250. Is it a worthy upgrade or should I wait for something better?

I did the same move.... not a huge leap, but the ability to OC the x6 is much better than the 940BE, my 940 topped at about 3.8 for 24/7 use and safe voltage, where as the x6 can do 4.2ghz stable at less voltage (1.475 compared to 1.525)

If you encode video or anything with alot of threads, the x6 is a good upgrade choice IMO (only if OC'ing)

Do you apps that can utilize more than 4 threads? Then the answer may be yes. If not, then I don't see much benefit.

none of those mb are really attractive for the price, I got a MSI 890GX bundled with my 1055T from fry's for $200 and its badass. Paying $340 for that 890 asus board bundle is just not a deal.

So with the new amd chipset set am3+, so am3 is a dead end platform as well. So I am guessing the only viable upgrade is for a high end I5 or i7 or wait for next gen amd cpu? Man i miss the day of LGA775.

DB is going to be on a new AM3+ socket.

You cant not recycle the socket as far as i know.

And JFAMD hasn't come in and contradicted that statement yet, so im sure its true.
Otherwise JFAMD would of been all over it.

FUD. Hardocp had a forum thread with JFAMD confirming it will work with AM3, but it won't have the full-featureset (assumed to be power gating and advanced turbos).

I have no reason to think we would not. Quite frankly I am tired of hearing about Bulldozer and am ready to use it.

Just to be clear, YES, Bulldozer will be backwards compatible with socket AM3. tt will however loose some of its feature set. AMD was not specific on what features but it seemed to me that it would be low power features/gating etc.
