You can update, and in fact MS would like you to update in order to gather data in regards to such an update. However, understand that you are installing a release candidate, not the full retail product. While this is technically not beta, is is still a test version.

I would suggest that you figure out a time that you can block a few hours to do this right. Backup your data! Again, Backup your data! Perform the upgrade and allow MS to gather that information to make the retail version better. Play with the software that should still be available and see how it works.

I upgraded from the beta build 7000 to build 7068, then to build 7077. I had no major issues while upgrading, but I had a few small issues that drove me crazy.

For the RC, I performed a fresh install. When the RTM comes out, I will perform a fresh install.

I suggest if you have 20 or 25 gb free space, use a program like Gparted live to allocate that free space as a new partition. Install the Rc on it and test it out until it expires. That way you can always go back to vista once your done with it. It won't run out til next year anyways (about march 2010) so you have some time.
