Worth it to try and sell laptops for parts?

I replaced my wife and I's laptops a few weeks ago, took out the hard drives and bought enclosures for them to be used as external storage. Now I'm not sure what to do with the old ones. One of them is an Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577 and the other is an Inspiron 15 5578 2-in-1. I can't even remember the specs on the 7577 except it had a gt 1060 Max Q. It ran well but it had the problem with the error in bios about the battery not being correct or something like that. The wife's computer just ran really slow, this even after I upgrade her hd to an ssd when we first got the rigs. Generally, is it worth to try and sell them for parts? Or just recycle them? What do you guys do?

I just recycle them, but I typically have cheap laptops just used for internet browsing, not anything with gaming potential. If you can get a little bit of money without much hassle I say sell them. For me it was just easier to get rid of them then worry about a few bucks potentially.

Thanks. I'll see if there's any local recyclers here that will take them if I can't get some cash. I read Best Buy recycles, the closest one to me is 30 miles but it may be worth the trip to get rid of them.

There are various charities that will accept donations and find a needy recipient.

I wouldn't bother parting it out, since that's a lot more work than just selling it whole, then you have the excess parts to store till you sell them all, if you ever do.

You could list it in the FSFT forum here.

Depending on how many you have you might want to call them and check if they have a limit on the number of items you can drop off. I believe it's 3 per person per day.

Even Staples will take laptops, and may still give you eCash (aka store credit/coupon/something?) for doing so. Nowhere near the value of a working laptop, I'd still rather find a way to gift it to someone needy if a normal sale is too much burden.

Sell it if it works.
I tend to buy it to use as secondary or work laptops. I recently bought (and ruined) one. But is better to sell it to tech savvy people.
