worth it to pay extra to go thru sigma's authorized dealer and get the extended warranty?

Im looking to get a Sigma 10-20mm for my XSi. Initially I was considering sigma4less.com aka photo4less.com since they have the cheapest pricing. Today I found out that us1photo.com also sells the lens for the same price but doesnt charge any shipping. Resellerratings seem to be generally positive for these companies, but there are a few complaints about getting grey market lenses as well as upsell tactics (for us1photo).

I just spoke with sigma and they said that since those companies arent authorized dealers, I will be eligible for only the 1 year manufacturer's warranty and not their extended 3 year warranty on EX lenses. Prices at authorized dealers are around $60 higher than sigma4less & us1photo.

Should I pay the extra $$ and go thru their authorized dealer to get the extended warranty? does anyone here have any experience buying from these stores?

TIA

My old 24mm Sigma wouldn't work on newer EOS bodies, and they wouldn't update the firmware either. So it became a doorstop.

Does the extended warranty cover that?

I simply do not believe in extended warranties. They are profitable for the issuer - therefore they are not profitable for me. I preref to be self insured.

Well, in Canada the extended warranty for Sigma cost nothing. All you had to do was buy at an authorized dealer. Dunno if it's the same in the US, but it sounds like it. The big difference here is grey-market vs. non-grey-market.

well yea, thats what it is here too. it doesnt really cost anything extra for extended warranty. just have to buy it from authorized dealer. only that the authorized dealers charge around $60 more than sigma4less.
