Worth it to go with Intel 510 SSD?

So I'm building a new system and can get an Intel 510 SSD (120GB) for $225. I understand that Intel has certain advantages in longevity/reliability but is that a good deal or should I wait to pick up something else when it hits slickdeals? Price-wise, it's a little more than I wanted to spend but I do know that I want an SSD one way or another.

Thanks, hope this makes sense. kinda. :p

Personally the only SSD's I trust are Intel's. My position is probably a bit outdated but given their track record its all I own.. and I own 3... all flawless.

Well, the 510 Elm Crest 120GB has been my first. I can say that it lives up to its throughput spec. We determined that the benchies were degraded from SSD speeds under the ISRT RAID0 "accelerated HDD" feature of the Z68 motherboards. But despite that, the "sequential read" speed for a partitioned/formatted volume which is also part of that RAID0 setup shows between 350 and 400+ MB/s.

Thing is, I wanted the drive to do the HDD-caching, and I wanted an Intel drive because ISRT is also their concoction. But the Elm Crest didn't come in sizes smaller than 120GB. So I have a 47 GB partition to play with in addition to ISRT.

Comforting to know . . . that some others here swear by the INtel SSD's.

I did. I'm very happy with the speed and performance. My system absolutely flies using it. But TBH, it seems like the reason to buy one is peace of mind. I didn't want to have to worry about a failure. SF based SSDs seem to be intermittently problematic, Crucial's had issues, not so Intel. I figured I was paying the premium to feel safe (and back up anyway, of course. But less worry is good).

Yeah, it won't be used as a storage drive, just installation files. I guess I'll go ahead with it, thanks all.
