I'm currently an SEO (over 6 years now), but I'm looking to switch into development.
I've got a RoR cert 2 years ago from UW, but haven't really touched it since I got it. Now I'm trying to get back into programming by learning PHP.
Since I've never had a dev job before, would I have a better chance of getting a job if I picked up a Linux cert like LPIC or Linux+? In addition to a Zend cert? I know experience trumps everything, but it's kind of hard to get a job if you don't have any prior experience.
I'm not sure if I want to be a full time dev - my ideal job would be a mix of programming and sys admin. That's why I'm also thinking of getting a linux cert. Maybe it might be easier to get a linux job first to get a foot in the door in IT, while I learn about developing
