With the release of AMD's 6cores, is it safe to say that in the coming weeks, Intel will lower prices on cpu's such as the i7 860?

As a side note, are 32nm quads coming?

As for the quads ? eh....

I thought I read somewhere that the 32nm refresh would be coming this summer, didn't know if it was soon or not.

If the i7-860 was $200, I would buy it today. If Intel would put out an i7-860 with AES-NI and 32nm... I would buy a few @ $200. Add another $200 for a Supermicro board and that's a cheap processing node.

I actually saw an i7 860 @ Fry's for $269 with a cheapo motherboard yesterday and almost bit.

Well, if you have a MicroCenter nearby, both the i7 860 and i7 930 are currently on sale for $199.99.

EDIT: my bad, didn't see prior post!

Yeah thats my current dilemma. I can get a xeon x3440(i7 860) for 240 shipped from newegg, or I can wait a month and pick up a 860 for HOPEFULLY 200 when I'm on vacation which has a microcenter in town.

Lolwut? Intel lowering prices?

That's a good joke. It takes a HUGE line-up shift and an entire new line-up of CPUs for Intel to actually lower their prices.

Drove 90 minutes to the closest Microcenter yesterday and picked up an i7 860 for $199, pretty stoked. Ended up buying a new case (Cooler Master Cosmos 1000) as well, though. It's impossible to leave these stores without buying extra crap you didn't intend to...

I stopped by the on in St Louis after flying back from our family vacation. The place was like Disney land for PC enthusiasts. I know when I win the lottery I will be walking through there with several shopping carts.

lol I feel spoiled
I live in the Silicon Valley so as you might expect, theres quite a few Frys/a well stocked MicroCenter around here. Lots of options to say the least.

Then again I just got computers a few months ago so yea

I've read somewhere that Intel will soon replace 860 with 870, and also release unlocked i5 and i7.

I'm in the same boat as NoSoup4You; Santa Rosa (N.SF.Bay) is around the same 90-mins to the Microcenter in San Jose. New Egg is just easier.

That is like the best thing about living in the Silicon Valley, seriously.

A word to the wise from experience:

If you only want to buy the CPU there, then before going into microcenter or frys, make sure you order other needed parts online.

I intended to only buy the i7 920 D0, but the ram and PSU were same price as newegg, mobo and GPU were only a little more. Rather than wait to get them online, I bought it all and had the rig built the next day.

The temptation to have it NOW was too great :)

As for lower prices from Intel - I hope that the AMD X6 does well - maybe then Intel will come out with an even lower price on their cheaper 6 core for X58?
