Well since i can't seem to oc them, factory ibm server, would i be able to replace the PIII xeons slot 700's with 1000's? The only trouble besides possible price I could forsee is the bios.

If i can get them cheap enough would i see a good improvement?

I pretty much using the server as a test bed and for learning on. I also run F@H on it but the 700's seem to not make it to the deadline.

I say no, my job wanted to do the same thing but up from 500->700 i believe and it was expensive, for what they were. Those Slot1 Xeon processors are expensive for the 100MHz FSB 2MB cache. You could buy a quad core machine cheaper than the time and money to upgrade them...

If you find them cheap enough, sure. I've seen Xeon Slot 2 and other Xeon chips for next to nothing on Ebay.

well i bit the bullit and spent a whopping 40 bucks for 4 1Ghz xeons, SECC type not the 495's. So hopefully they work, and i can get my server back to some spare crunching.

I browsed and browsed ebay for may dual cpu servers to look for something newer but they are going alot higher than want to pay so i figured i would do this instead.
