Worth installing my old ATI HD 4850?

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, and those few I do play are older releases. I'm building a new computer with an i5 3570k cpu and was planning on using the onboard video, but I do have this older card available. Is it worth using, or is it just about equivalent to the HD 4000 Intel graphics?

Still viable, perhaps not for 1080P at high settings, but reasonable settings or older games.

One thing to note is that ATI/AMD dropped support for pre-HD5000-series GPUs in their mainline drivers. So Cat 12.4 is the last official driver for the HD4850, that I am aware of.

Its still a decent card, like someone else said 1080p is likely out of the question for new games. If you play MMO's then 1080p might be ok. Compared to onboard graphics it is much much better though.

Alright, thanks for the replies. I may try out the onboard graphics first, just to get a feel for how they work with HD video and a couple of old games. I can always add the video card in later if I'm not satisfied. And now I know the separate card is at least a small step up.

Install the old one too. Not sure if i remember correctly... but i think that whatever you have your monitor plugged into that card he will use, making comparison fairly easy.

The 4850 is an oldie, but still a viable graphics card for 1680X1050 gaming. It's the reason the 9800 GTX + existed.

Just retired my 4830. What releases do you normally play?

Some older point and shoot titles. I think my newest one is Bioshock 2.
Some others I've gone back to play include the original Mass Effect, Half Life 2 and the mini-sequels, Beyond Good and Evil...you know, ancient stuff. :)

HD video playback is really much more important to me now.

The 4800's are still viable cards, and leaps and bounds faster than anything integrated.

As others have stated, the 4850 is many times faster than the integrated graphics, not a little.
