worth going to gigabit for house network?

i have 6 pc's at the house that the kids do lan games on... would it be worth going to gb lan in the house? i have wired 100mb currently...

it seems that gb would help xferring files around, but i can't really find anything that shows that gaming type traffic would benefit...

Most games are written to behave well on typical Internet connections, which are basically less than 1Mbps (when you consider both upload and download speeds). That likely makes a 1000Mbps (gigabit) network overkill for most gaming needs, although, as you mentioned, it certainly is great for transfering large files.

cubeless, believe it or not, if you're serious about gaming, 100BaseTX might be better - lower latency.

For gaming it won't make a difference but I run a little lan party for friends and it makes a huge difference when people need to download something off my file server.

Exactly. Gigabit is great for getting game patches, maps, etc. from the file server but you'd won't notice any difference in game play/response whatsoever.
