Worth going from Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's to Z-5500?

Amazon has a good deal on them, and I have a $150 gift card for Amazon. I know music is geared for 2.1, so I'm wondering if it's even worth it to "upgrade." I primarily use the PC for Music and gaming, not so much movie watching.

I would say the Z-5500's and Klipsch have comparable sound, though the Klipsch tends to have a boomier sub and brighter speakers with the logitechs having a more even sound (I prefer the sound of the logitechs overall). The upgrade to 5.1 is pretty significant though, also the digital inputs are great if you use em for double duty from a DVD player or something, but since that isnt a priority, I dunno.

Still your klipsch's arent exactly slacking in the PC speaker department. But if you have a good place to mount the side speakers, surround can be a big improvement (I personally love just having a middle channel to say the least)

The Klipsch speakers are in no way "boomier" than the Logitech's. In fact, the biggest complaint most people (including me) have about the Logitech set is that its TOO boomy (too much bass, not enough mid-range), which makes them fine for gaming but not particularly good for music or movies.

Save your money. I just bought K's on sale from BB. They sound great. Surround for a pc s a marketing gimmick. On my home theather 5.1 surround. the center channel handles most (90%?) of the sound. The front surrounds provide the stereo. The rear provide minor contributions to the overall sound.

Klipsch Subs are very good with nice tight Bass, Logitechs are boomy having a more muddy sound. Many people prefer Logitechs satellites for being less harsh than Klipsch's satellite Horn Tweeters. I have Klipsch 5.1 Ultras and love them. A friend of mine has a set of Logitechs(not sure of Model)4.1s and they sound good to me too. We both live in apartments and I have never heard his cranked, but before moving here I had cranked my Klipsch's and even at very extreme volume the Bass remains tight and highs remain clear.

Of course all that doesn't necessarily address the OP specifically, but from the Reviews/Opinions I've heard it seems these Klipsch/Logitech differences largely apply across the various Model lines
