7970 makes more sense if gaming at 2560 x ______
Looks like it.

Go back in time and un-purchase the 590?
:D That's not going to improve his performance today though which seems like that's what he is after.

Don't forget when the OP is not gaming, he can use 2x HD7970s to Bitcoin mine.

Current rate of Bitcoins is > $6.00. A single HD7970 @ 1150mhz makes about 680 Mhash using GUI miner. All the OP would need is to download GUI Miner, grab AMD SDK Stream 2.6 or later and create a wallet address to deposit them into from the mining pool such as BTC Guild or Slush's Pool. It takes 5 min to make an account at BTC Guild to mine coins and another 10 min to install a wallet, GUI Miner and SDK Stream driver.

A single HD7970 @ 1150mhz will make 12.04 Bitcoins a month @ $6 = $72 (Calculator). 2 of those is $144 a month. Using adjustment for electricity rate (alternative calculator) of $0.15 per kWh and assuming 300W of power consumption per card (600W total), 2x 680 Mhash = 1360 Mhash, that's $88 a month after expenses.

Even if the OP mines for 12 hours out of 24 when he is working / sleeping, that's $44 a month x 6 months = $264 in Newegg or Amazon gift cards for his next upgrade.

If the OP games for 6 hours a day and mines for 18 hours, that's $66 a month x 6 months = $396. So in 6 months from today, he'll have a "FREE" HD7970 from trading in and $400 for his next upgrade and 60-70% faster performance at 2560x1440. That's a no brainer.

Those are some mind blowing calculations on earning from having a GPU... fack me and my terrible EU kWh prices.

Bless the USA and its skepticism not to get fooled into the great global warming scam and convert into useless solar and wind.

Yes i have a Asus Gtx 590 been trying to sell it or trade it for a 680..

But is it worth it really?

The things i am looking at are this...

Energy savings and noise also how it seems to be hard to re sale duel gpu cards over a single cpu card..

Im looking at Gtx 680s that clock at 1300mhz are better...

But the fact remains is it worth it what are the ups and downs to this?

The bench shows a stock clock gtx 680 vs a 590 and the 590 wins by alot.. what id like to see is a overclocked gtx 680 vs a 590.
I might be interested in the GTX 590, I need to find out how CUDA treats the two GPUs tho. PM me price + newegg link + your location.

Toronto is even cheaper because of nuclear and Niagara Falls nearby:

http://www.torontohydro.com/sites/electricsystem/residential/yourbilloverview/Pages/ElectricityRates.aspx

Regulated Price Plan Tiered Pricing:

7.5 ¢/kWh/first 600 kWhs used per 30 days
8.8 ¢/kWh/remaining kWhs

Regulated Price Plan Time-of-Use Pricing:

11.7 ¢/kWh Highest Price (On-peak)
10.0 ¢/kWh Mid Price (Mid-peak)
6.5 ¢/kWh Lowest Price (Off-peak)

BTW, since my last post where I estimated BTC @ $6, the value of 1 BTC has exceeded $7. I would trade low electricity costs for hot/fun European women + high electricity rates though. :p

Damn I really should get into bitcoining.

Myself and the other residents living here don't get electricity bills. For whatever reason the shopping centre below us picks up the tab.

:( You could have signed on the back of the cheque to endorse it which allows anyone to cash it. Your parents could have then deposited it into their account. $33 per BTC is huge. hehe I doubt the prices will go to that level.

That sucks...I've been earning decent profit since last summer. Spendbitcoins.com converts to many things, including Paypal, which I use as currency for many different types of purchases.

So would I...my recent trip to Санкт-Петербург convinced me of this. :D
