Worth getting a mobo with more than 1 pci-e slot if not using more than 1 video card?

I dont ever plan to use xfire/sli so im wondering if getting a P5Q-Pro is a waste of money? is there any other mobos i should consider before hand?

P5Q-Pro is a decent choice, or you could get one of the other P5Q models.

If you'd like to pay less than $100 and don't need RAID, I've been happy with my Gigabyte P43 chipset board so far (~3 weeks). Setup was painless for it with an E8400, 2 x 2GB Crucial DDR2-800, and an ATI 4870.

The only application that most users are likely to care about, in the near term, for multiple PCI-Express x16 slots would be for multiple video cards.

Having some PCI-Express x1 slots (intended for other devices, like networking cards) is a plus, although the market is not making the switch to using those very quickly.

Does any other consumer or near-consumer level hardware use a PCI-E x16 slot?

Non Xfire/SLI boards are usually mATX board or low budget board. These boards are usually inferior performance-wise or feature-wise.

For example, these boards would be cutting corners and use cheaper components, so they would be harder to overclock.

These boards can also lack desired features like native RAID support, native Firewire support, extra SATA ports, CLRCMOS button, board layout that makes sense, ...etc.

You should base you board decision on the features you want, not the features you don't need.
