Worth getting a 9800 Pro?

Been debating whether to get a Pro or just save up for a month or two and get a 6800 or X800. Whatcha guys think?

Personally, I wouldn't go any lower than a 6800GT.

That's what I was actually thinking, but someone told me that a 9800 Pro is the way to go.

It'll be faster but not worth the money IMO. I went from a 5900XT to a 6800GT and I'm satisfied, but if I would have gone with the 6800 nu like I was going to, I would have been disappointed.

Isn't a 5900U with 256MB of ram about as fast as a 9800 Pro? Why would you do that? No point IMO.

Save now, spend later after PCIExpress and the card lineups shakeout. AGP is by no means dead, but it may constrict you in the near future on a motherboard upgrade if there is a particular feature on a mobo that is offered in PCIExpress only. At least that is the way I'm looking at it right now (hanging on to a 9800np)

The 9800 Pro bests the FX5900 in most tests but not by enough to warrant the upgrade IMHO. Cook1, save a few more $$$ and get the 6800GT. I can't afford one myself so I'm holding off until the 6600GT is available. That will be a decent upgrade for me from my 128MB 9800 Pro.

i would agree, dont get a 9800pro, wait until the nforce4 boards come out (if u have an a64) and get a pci express based 6800gt so if you want you can get another and run sli ooooooooooh 😀

Or if you plan on going SLI you can always get a 6600GT when they come out and then grab another when you need it. 😀 But as for the 9800 Pro, it's just not worth the cash going from a 5900 Ultra.
