Worth buying?

This is ironic...my parents left their old thinkpad with me, and just came back into town yesterday. I never touched their laptop once, they tried to use it maybe 1hr ago and it wouldn't even post...I tried playing around with it, taking the memory/hd/etc etc out, no luck. 🙁

But yeah, usually the mobo goes for more than the laptops worth, which is stupid imho.

Well the idea would be swapping boards. One thing that may be more common than you think for thinkpads, there was a guy who found a thinkpad outside of one's house with charger and all getting set for trash day, guy took it to class, turns out it ONLY turns on if the connection between the two circuit boards is bent UPwards.. Wierd imo..

I actually fixed an old laptop of mine which had a bad motherboard. I bought another broken one off ebay with a bad screen and which had the cd-rom, floppy, hard drive, and ram removed. I transfered all those parts off my bad laptop and got it working.

So it was a different model laptop? Was it an IBM? So did you switch screens or what? I'm kinda confused but otherwise I have the general idea..

It was a panasonic toughbook. I switched the screens. It wasn't the same exact model but I knew beforehand that the parts were innerchangable. actually the replacement laptop I got had a faster processor.
