I bought this game on release, late 2009 at it's full price of $50. I've finished it once and playing it again now.

This is a 3rd person POV RPG, EU flavor, different, unforgiving, hard at times, beautiful, fast-paced action game. It's not your typical NA RPG ala ME, BG and the like.

I bought it without even looking at reviews, which I tend to stay away from more and more, and I wouldn't go back at all. My first playthrough I think last me 50+ hours of adventuring outdoor and indoor, exploring, fighting, talking, helping...50+ hours having fun!

I recommend it to you, who like RPGs that get out of the traditionnal RPG style and take risks in an over-diluted game era.

I have this one too. Pretty decent RPG. Would be excellent if the combat was better. hit detection and balancing are all over the map. Otherwise pretty entertaining.

What's EU flavor? I didn't play a whole lot of ME but from what I did, I'd consider it a different flavor from BG even if they were both BW games made in NA...

It's hard to describe. It's the kind of game that does not hold your hand AT ALL. No precise quests markers on the map. The journal vaguely tells you where to go but will never specifically and exactly point you where to go.

It's like Gothic and Risen.

It's also about the "feeling" of the game.

Like you can see, it's really hard to explain heheh

It is very similar to the Gothic series, which happen to be among my favorites. I made it a little into the part where you can turn into the dragon and then stopped having the time to play as much. Have to get back to it soon..

If you enjoy "Oblivion type games", i'd recommend giving it a try.

It's pretty different. NA games tend to be more stream-lined and "get to the point" oriented type of games where as EU (and even Korean based games) tend to be more focused on the journey getting there.

It's an acquired taste, love it or hate type relationship.

Couldn't explained it better then that, thanks AlgaeEater.

Fun game - but very buggy - combat system takes a bit getting use to [very unintuitive]

/agree about the journey part - you aren't "led on a leash" as to where you need to go for quests [but thought I heard they were patching that in] - so you've got to do a little leg work and have a slightly good memory. :)

The skill system is a bit different than other games - and it really doesn't matter what you start as - mage, hunter, fighter - as you can choose/use skills from each class if you want.

I played only the 360 version. Is the engine any better optimized on the PC? That thing is a slideshow on consoles.

Also, and the thing that makes me unable to play many foreign RPGs, is that the translation is lacking in many respects. A lot of the dialogue sounds terribly stiff like the translation was word for word and not of the intent of the original text/dialogue.

An example:

original language: There is beauty in these woods - a beauty I would be hesitant to endanger.
translated: The woods are nice. I don't want to put them in danger because they are beautiful.

It just feels so off.

Ok - now I'm interested.

I never did bother to beat the Titan in Risen but I got to the end at least; I'm looking for a new Gothic-style game.

Then try Divinity 2. It's kind of the same control scheme and 3rd person point of view plus it's a EU RPG style.

You have to try it!

i just got into it now as well. its nice, but the interface is appalling! why do i have to look at a basket in order to open it?? what if its up on a shelf? why cant i open containers while jumping?? and god damn't why so many empty containers???

cool game aside from the "human engineering".

Bought it at Best Buy today; it's still 39.99.

I hoped for less. But if DD2 is a decent Gothic-style game it's worth at least that for me.

This isn't much like Gothic.

About an hour into the game it's more like Two Worlds (a game I enjoyed a lot).

I'll give it more time, I guess.

You're right, it is a bit more like Two Worlds than Gothic. I made the Gothic comparison since it does share some similarities. Like the third person action, non-leveling enemies, etc..

Fun game though. I need to get back to it. :)
