Worst school assignemnt ever.

This is for an Operating Systems class:

CSC139
Project
Due: May 4, 2006


The research project will give you an oportunity to investigate one of the contemporary journaling file systems. Each group will select one of the following topics:

Third Extended File System (ext3fs),
IBM Journaling File System (JFS),
Reiser File System (ReiserFS), or
XFS file system.

Projects will be done in groups of 3 to 4. Each group has to submit a
written report about 30 pages long. The report will first describe the classical Unix file system and then contain a thorough description of the selected journaling file system.
 
A month and a half. No implementation due. 3-4 team members. 30 page paper, most of the required content is readily available online. I fail to see how this can possibly be the worst school assignment ever.

will be able to get more information on one of those because you could probably work into the paper how much they improve on Ext3fs
 
frankly, that doesn't sound too bad. Try having a 60 page brief due a week after it's assigned. oh yeah.. no partners 🙂
 
Not really that bad. When I took OS we had a different type of project. We had to write a freakin operating system from scratch. Oh yeah, we worked in groups of two. You don't know how lucky you have it......:thumbsdown:

I would rather do that. It'd be more work, but it wouldn't be pointless. Comparing filesystems is so off-topic for this class.

I didn't say this was the *hardest* assignment ever, I said it was the *worst*. it's a ton of pointless work with no purpose related to what the course should be teaching.
 
That reminds me of the when my friend told me about an assignment her brother had to do for an Econ class. Each person had to write a 50 page paper which sucks but it's doable. They were due on the day of the final which is also fine. The only problem is that the professor gave them all back DURING the final. He obviously couldn't read through every single one so he just skimmed through each one and gave it a sh!tty grade. It's hard to take a final when you get back something you've been working on the entire quarter and you realize you got a horrible grade on it. There were quite a few people crying during the final. That professor isn't teaching anymore.
 
You picked the wrong place to complain about an assignment dealing with file systems. Can you say NERDS!!!

I did that.. wrote an entire OS... IN ASSEMBLER 😉 no groups.

what did you write it in?
