Basically, what's the worst compliment you've gotten? Y'know, where people try to be nice but it comes out horribly, horribly wrong?

Not me, but I have this friend at work who always gets compliments from the Area Manager like, "Thanks for trying."

It sends my friend into a tizzy after the big boss leaves. "Thanks for trying, thanks for trying. Why didn't he just say too bad you failed?"

no not really - I mean where people try to be nice to you and it just gets under the skin - the way they said it, or how they said it (even though they had good intentions when saying it)
