The UN publishes long-range projections to help environmental scientists and policy-makers assess implications of dramatic change in world population.

wow , the corps must be excited , that would mean exceptional growth in the world economy, that many more consumers/customers should fuel growth quite nicely

if you told people in 1703 that the population would be 6 billion in 300 years, i am sure they would have been just as flabbergasted

Sweet Jebus!

A trillion in England is 10^18. That's a quintillion here in America.

I can't see 20 billion people being able to live on the earth, much less 134 trillion, and 134 quintillion is just insane.

I'm confused by your post. Doesen't it say "...global population could rise to 134 trillion..."? :p

But.. Damn. :Q That's absolutely insane.

It's almost a pity that I won't be around to see it.

Yeah, but a trillion in England is a quintillion in America. Link

I was being stupid, but in all seriousness, 134 trillion is completely impossible.

I hope no one actually believe it´ll live 134 trillion people on this planet in 300 years.
9-10 billion sounds likely.

even if aids wiped out all of africa, SARS took out asia, and nuclear war took out the middle east, I still don't see how how we could have that few people in 300 years.

Who cares, none of us will be around!

If we get frozen we could be

If you think about technology and its advances in 300 years, humans will probably be living on other planets, and the earth will probably be covered with buildings that are super dooper tall like in star wars 2 or the fifth element, so sure that many people will most likely fit.

As was said, looking back to 1703 im sure people couldnt have imagined skyscrapers being built like they are nowadays, and to people back then, technology today would be like something out of star trek.

Back in 1703 if you were there could you honestly of imagined flat panel touch displays and other shite that we take for granted these days?

So basically there's three things that can happen..the population will grow by a lot, by a good amount, or not grow very much..how do they come up with these things?

And I'm sure WWIII will have broken out before then anyway, so we have little to worry about :)

We should be inhabiting other planets by then, but I think these numbers are a worst case scenario.

Could you imagine NYC with over a billion people?

Doubtful, extremely doubtful... as wealth levels throughout the world increase, people will have less and less kids... I mean if everyone on Earth had two kids then there would be no population increase due to birth.

The only way I can seriously see this ever happening is if scientist slow aging so that we live 300-500 years each... then it would make sense... otherwise based on even a life expectancy of 125 years earth's population growth will slow...

My best uneducated guess, 25 billion in the year 2300.

There is a really simple solution to this problem, WWIII.

I predict it will occur in 2005 when Taiwan declares independence. China will invade. This will provoke American's to send their troops to Asia (Japan and Korea). North Korea will take the first chance to strike both South Korea and Japan. The Pan-Middle East movement will be at a fever pace and an invasion of Israel would occur. Russia will be drawn in the middle being mainly a supplier of weapons but once American involvement begins to infringe on Russian rights, we will cascade into a full world war. California has sunk into the Pacific ocean by 2006 so the liberal front would have simmered down.

I sure as hell hope so, but the government needs to start funding NASA instead of funding tobacco subsidies and other pork. Otherwise, we'll have a Malthusian solution instead.
