Ive had my Scion TC since last June and the only problems ive had are creaking in the sunroof and squeaks coming from the hatchback.

The only new car my dad bought was a new 74 Ford Maverick, puke green. It broke within 6 months and he sold it before it was a year old. That car sucked big time.

Been lucky with my cars, first was a used 85 Nissan Sentra, 5-spd manual. Next a 92 Accord, which I still drive today 180K miles strong.

1962 Rambler Classic station wagon.

Only because it was WORN THE FVCK OUT.

Used more oil than gas.

I didn't have it long...

1966 Rambler American, straight 6, $215 (back in 1981).

No FM radio (had to carry a transistor wired into the main speakers), the trunk had a padlock on it (the original keyed lock had rusted out), when I drove through a puddle the (non-power) brakes would barely work, lost the original gas cap and couldn't find another one so I had to stuff a sock in the hole (earning it the name "Molotov Cocktail"), and the drivers-side window would drop 4 inches every time you hit a bump (roll it up, *bump*, window drops, roll it back up, *bump*, et. al.).

I've owned an 86 Honda Accord.

That car was nice at 180K with the proper maintenence. It was my first car. I took care of it until one night it overheated for some reason and I didn't notice until the engine was one solid block.

Even then though I still drove it home about 6 miles.

Then I owned a Suburu Wagon. It looked like a space shuttle. I drove that to well over 260K then we sold it for a grand.

And now I own a 91 Jeep Cherokee and it's at about 210K and runs like a charm.

It has the average 200K Plus Club bumps, a couple wierd noises etc. but the thing floats. Inline 6 and can push a house over. Plus it's smooth and starts and runs as good as can be.

Ahh the wonders of growing up broke. You learn how to keep a car.

Ditching an unreliable car for a recent Volkswagen? That's like being a shipwreck victim rescued by the Titanic.

As for me, I've yet to have a "bad" car. My old Accord (1988 LX-i) piled up almost 220,000 miles before the rust hole in the floor made me get rid of it. My 924S was in and out of repair a lot, but it was really coming around when I traded it for the 944. The 914 had its share of quirks, but the thing was unrestored and from 1976 and it never had anything critical go wrong, hell, the heater actually still worked (well, as well as the heater on an air-cooled car can work).

Yep.. VW has a lonh way to go as far as quality - near the bottom in most JD Powers rankings.

Mucho VW related quality linkage (Mostly JD Power) And a little VW fanboy ownage too! ;P

Seeing as I've only had two vehicles in my name (with nary a complaint about either), I'll speak for my parents and vouch for their old '82 Pontiac 6000LE. Hopefully, its carcass has long since been turned into scrap metal, never to disgrace another driveway or inconvenience another owner to no end.

I currently have my first car and it was GIVEN to me. Got it with 167k miles on it. 1998 Chevy Prizm, 5 speed. POS! It shakes and squeaks and pops out of gear all the time.

83 VW GTI...had this car back when I was 19...the electrical system in that car was a joke. I put two 12" subs in the hatch...the voltmeter would dip in rhythm with the music and I would put a new (refurbished actually) alternator in every 3 months - thank god for Chief Auto parts lifetime warranty....

I had a MkII GTI (with the BBS alloys) with the exact same problem. The mechanics were rock solid though. I eventually sold it for £80 as I couldn't afford the MOT

1992 Ford Escort GT.

Dubbed the "Shake and Bake" by my friends becuase the car's alingment and rear wheel positioning were off and it would shake horrbly down the highway as it attempted to go 65 mph. The 'Bake' part was the oil that it consumed. Just about a quart a week. None of it leaked though! It kicked the bucket at 120K or so. Got 150 bucks for the tires.
