I can't think of one worse.

Blowout game, ump probably making about $5 for the night and wants to get home. So he decides to hasten things along a little.

Wow, that is just beyond absurd. My daughter plays travel and school softball and I've seen some horrible calls but nothing THAT bad. The runner was slowing down and about to turn and walk back to first before the throw came.

And umps generally make $50 per game, $25 cash paid by each team for every game played. I've played all over the south, including in Alabama, and travel teams (as in the parents) have to pay the ump directly and they always make $50 per game. With school ball the school/county/rec department pays for it I assume but I can't imagine the pay is any different seeing how consistent it has been for the last 8 years.

Fail Mary?

I'm a huge fan of both teams...Packers since about 1965, Seahawks since the franchise started in 76...and I STILL think the Packers intercepted that ball.

Wow, that was pretty bad too but I can at least sorta understand how the umpire could get that call wrong in the moment. The one in the OP is just impossible to get wrong by anything resembling an even half-decent rookie ump. She was 3 steps beyond the bag when the throw came in and he called her out.

It's 2017; everybody's a winner. Give that ump a trophy for most improved at not giving a damn.

jim joyce blows armando galarraga's perfect game

More important, no doubt. Far bigger consequences, changing a perfect game into a one hitter in MLB is light years different than a 19-8 HS girls softball game. But that was a bang-bang play with the pitcher covering, it was easily miss-able. Even with replay it was tough to see, it took super-slo mo and a good angle to know the call was wrong. This guy HAD to have done that intentionally, there's no possible way to miss that call.

This one is up there. That call was so blatantly obvious AND you had a perfect game on the line. To put that into context, there have been around 212,000 MLB games in history, and there have been 23 perfect games... So, way to go Jim.

If you mean referee worst call then blowing the coin toss is right up there:

If you mean the worst play call ever then I don't think there's even any competition for this one:
