OK, time to bring out the stories...

Here, I was looking for my wallet and leaned over to get it off the passnger side floor. I was a new driver and pulled the steering wheel with me to the right. Into a 1974 Buick (with a trailer hitch - see the nice fine cut down the center of the car? The only damage to the Buick was that I sliced the gas tank like the Titanic and was sitting in about 2 inches of gasoline. Needless to say I exited the car very quickly. By the time I lurched backward from the force of the hit, I could still hear the windshield, which popped out, going "fwoop-fwoop-fwoop" as it went end over end in the air and landed about 100 feet away. I got away with a bruised thumb. I was only going about 35mph, and only wearing a lap belt but 35 to zero in 4 ft leaves little in the way of comfort.

Car was a 1974 kit car - a Bradley GT - fiberglass over VW beetle kit.

Drove my dad's Chevy S10 too fast around a curve(40-45mph) in our own neighborhood. It was a warm February morning with lots of due on the road, it was super slick, lost control and went into someone's yard, rolled it on its side completely around one time back to rest on the tires. Frame was destroyed car was totalled. I walked home (8 houses down).

Very crappy day, but at least I was not hurt.

Lets see....a couple of them really kept me lucky.

1. Traveling down a back raod with some friends, joking around in my old Nissan Stanza, misjudged a split in the road going about 70mph. went straight into the woods and never hit a thing but the ground. Car was off the ground for like 20 feet befor it landed...actually drove the car out of the woods and back home....to face the wrath of my wife.....

2. I was like 18 years old, driving with a friend home from a party, i was drinking he wasn;t so he decided to drive, Borrowed a friends 1972 nova...hit a turn doing 85mph and rolled it over, hit a telephone pole and ended up in some guys front lawn, right in front of his door at 3:00am in the morning.

I went under a lorry at 25-30mph that swerved out in front of me to avoid traffic. front, side and sunroof all went pop, the car compressed so much the front wheels went up through the wheel arches. The car eventually stopped underneath behind the sunroof. I got out slightly shaken but very pissed, funnily enough the lorry driver didnt get out. I spent the evening picking shards of glass out of my head.

Yikes, having owned a Stanza, and been owned by a wife's wrath, I can only guess the wrath was worse.

Flipped my roommate's mustang in '92 going 85 down the freeway. Got distracted, road curved, I didn't. I over corrected and started spinning. I felt the car lift up off the ground and that's when I blacked out.

Witnesses said the car flipped 3 times in the air and landed on the roof, it slid about 50 yards on the roof (with my face sliding along the highway out the window) before it stopped and rolled one last time on the wheels.

I was released from the hospital that night looking like I lost part of my forehead. All I have are 3 nice scars on my forehead and a new respect for paying attention while I'll drive.

Rear ended by a ford cargo van going ~30 while I was stopped (bumper, taillights, license plate holder all gone)
Rear ended by a FWD Corolla GTS going ~10 while I was stopped (small barely visible scratch).

God Bless head restraints.

I flipped my car over and slid into a ditch when I was 16. Luckily I walked away from that.

i was learning how to ride my bike when i was bout...6 or something.

and i just got the training wheels off, actually i don't think i even used training wheels, maybe it was just a new bike that was a bit too big for me, so I kept on falling and got pretty scraped up all over.

Car has already been taken away by insurance company. I had many offers for many parts, its a shame, such a great car.

Crashed (I was pushed into the wall) a NASCAR-sanctioned Hobby Stock prepped Camaro at 85mph into a retaining wall and then got smacked by another Camaro going 85mph. That felt like falling 30ft onto concrete, landing flat on my face. I also crashed a Ford Escort (FIA legal rally car) when the rear end stuck during a hairpin turn and the car rolled twice. We later found out the rear end locked up (axle snapped and the r&p had stress cracks). That was a walk in the park (except fixing the damage to the frame).
Had lots of fender benders and such racing (mostly being nudged by other drivers).

I've been in about four street car accidents, none of which were my fault. Three of which I was a passenger in someone else's car. Never had a speeding ticket either. ;)

100+ mph wheelie (on a deserted road) into a beanfield. I was just learning how to do them. I brought the wheelie up up tapped out in third gear, started bouncing off the revlimiter and set her down with the front end crossed up....went into a tank slapper and ended up in a beanfield. I hit a rut in the field while trying to slow down. I fell off and my bike did a triple lutz, landing about 20 ft away. Only injury was a broken collar bone. When I landed, I must have tumbled cuz the bottom edge of my helmet is what broke my collar bone.

Heading into an interchange of two interstates on the way home in rush hour. Freezing rain coming down. I was in my '94 Dodge Intrepid and the rear-end broke loose and I started sliding. I tried to regain control but overcorrected and spun the opposite way. I then slid thru a small ditch between my lane and the on-ramp of the other interstate, slid across that lane (miraculously hitting no one else). Then I spun around and was in the grass off to the right of that on-ramp and heading straight for a rock wall (speed at that time was about 35-40mph) and the car angled a bit and the left front nailed the wall, the airbags deployed and the rear of the car spun around and nailed the wall again and it came to rest pointing out toward the interstate.

I got out and walked up to flag someone down to get a ride home and call a tow truck. I was standing there and a few people stopped and some went up to the car looking for the driver. I said, "I'm over here!" They couldn't believe I was completely fine!

Well, I have back/neck problems on occasion now, though.

Walked away from one in detroit going 95 mph in a chevelle with 3 other dudes on the interstate into a flashing light "35 mph" curve sign. We ate the impact barrier in the medium. One guy had a concussion. We tore off the plates and reported it stolen. The police didn't believe the dude either.

One I got carted away from was 20 years ago, foggy CA freeway, car in the middle of the road, t-boned it, fell out into the pavement and rolled up a hill (me and the car). I woke up in the hospital when they were rinsing the dirt out of my eyes and then really awake when they began stitching my eyelids back on. When they started to stitch my lip I began to scream and then graciously got some M O R P H E N E. Ahhhhhhh....all was well from there. The next morning they sent me to a miltary hospital (I was in the usmc at the time) and I asked for some more morphene. The nurse laughed and gave me one tylenol and told me to stop being a big puss. Nice.

parked in traffic on I-75 waiting to get to Lollapalooza this summer, a kid hit the car BEHIND me going at about 50-70 MPH. He probably didn't even see the backup, as he was going to teh concert as well. The car behind me was completely totalled, front and back end, and my car had (2001 Chevy Blazer) had about $8500 worth of damage on it...but not enough to consider it "totalled" by the insurance company. :|

Nobody was really hurt...we were sore for a while, and I"m sure the stupid fvckers that hit us (not the car behind us) were pretty raw for a while too.

I rolled an '85 ford exp on december tenth 1986 at 10:34 p.m. (will never forget it) got cut off, going too fast, swerved, over corrected, hit a banked median, rolled one and a half times, car slid 100 yards on the roof while spinning, it was a two seater car with three occupants, one guy was sitting in the little cargo area, when the car stopped it was still upside down, the hatch glass had broken out and the guy in the back was upside down resting on his shoulder and head, me and the front seat passenger gave him a push and he rolled out the back so we could crawl out, the radio was still blasting and the wheels were still spinning and my collection of around 60 cassette tapes were all over the road, the driver who cut me off did not stop but witnesses did, they told the police what they saw, one lady said she saw the car when it was in the air, none of us were hurt in any way, but, in the years since that accident both of the guys who were in that car with me have died, one from stomach cancer, the other from aspirin overdose.

But that wasnt really the worst, in the spring of 84 a huge ass 72/73 chrysler newport ran a stop sign in front of me while I was going about fourty in a 76 plymouth fury, both very big heavy cars, I "T-Boned" the newport and remember seeing that cars driver and passenger reacting to the impact, saw the passenger door glass break and the ladys head roll towards the impact and saw the drivers head hit something and blood going against the back window of the inside of their car, then blackness, then I sat up to look out my windsheild only to see the hood of my car folded in half and blocking the view, somebody helped me out of the car and I saw that after we collided the other car had enough momentum to continue in it original path and to the right a bit where he plowed in to a row of parked cars where he hit one broadside and pushed three cars together (parked side by side, not parralell), both cars were beyond totalled, I had a lump on my forehead from hitting the windsheild and still have a lump on my leg where it hit the dash, been told it is a fat deposit caused somehow by the accident.

It turned out that all five cars were insured by geico, they cancelled me shortly after all the claims were settled.

1. Was driving home between classes one day to pick up something that I'd forgotten, and ended up T-boning a Chevy Suburban (vs. my dinky little Ranger): I was going west and the 'burban was going east, when all of a sudden this littel econobox car backs out of a driveway right in front of it. The lady driving the 'burban swerved into the suicide lane to avoid the car - which she managed to do; that lady drove away without a scratch - and the back tires on her truck broke loose on the wet pavement. The 'burban slid length-wise across the two west-bound lanes, and my Ranger connected on the beam between the front and rear doors on the driver's side. The suburban kept sliding until it's rear wheels ended up over the curb on the other side of the road, and my truck just bounced back a few feet. The lady driving the suburban only had a sore arm, and my shoulders ended up being sore for a few weeks; that was it, fortunately. The police had to go track down the lady that caused the accident, since she ran off, and then we found out that a) she was driving someone else's car and b) she *supposedly* didn't have any insurance. I did, however, get a letter from State Farm a year after the accident; turns out she did have insurance and just wouldn't turn it in.

2. Was sitting in a little concrete connector between the east- and west-bound lanes of a small highway waiting to make a left turn across the west-bound lanes. There was a car sitting next to me, going across the east-bound lanes, and a big truck sitting in the west-bound left-hand turn lane, waiting to do the same thing. I didn't think the truck was blocking my view, but I guess it was. I looked and didn't see any cars coming, so I started out across the highway - and this little beat-up, multi-colored (parts from different vehicles would be my guess), 2-seater sports car darts out from behind the truck and catches me on the front passenger-side wheel. That was bad enough, but to make things worse, I jammed my feet to the floor to brace myself against the impact, and in the process hit the gas pedal - I ended up flying into the ditch on the side of the road. A good 4 or 5 foot drop down a steep embankment. Took me a second to realize what happened and pull my foot off the accelerator, but that was the worst of it. I didn't have a scratch on me, and I almost gave the poor paramedic a heart attack when I walked out of the ditch. He was probably sure I'd have a broken neck or something. Here again, the guy that hit me had no insurance :| Not that it would have done any good; the police said this one was my fault.

EDIT: I was driving a '93 S-10 Blazer 4x4, which I had bought to replace the '91 Ranger that was totaled in #1 :(

i was 16 and driving my parents volvo wagon to a high school football game with some friends. i was actually driving extra careful because of having the friends in the car, but as i went through an intersection, a guy in cadillac tried to turn left in front of me (unprotected left turn, i had the right of way because i was going straight) and smashed the left front fender of the volvo. no injuries, and the car was still driveable although it cost a lot to fix, of course.
can't really blame the guy because he was a recent south asian immigrant (who universally seem to be unable to drive when they arrive) and most of the intersections in my town have protected left turns, so he probably didn't even know there is such a thing as an unprotected left turn. he didn't speak english but a witness spoke farsi or whatever he spoke so the police were able to communicate with him. the witness backed me up, which is good because it looks bad whenever a kid gets in an accident.
although it was the other guy's fault my guess is i could have avoided that accident if i had had the experience and "skill" i have now. first of all i now know to watch out for people doing that at every intersection where there's an unprotected left, and secondly when i saw it coming, i locked up the rear brakes and just sort of plowed ahead. these days i can modulate brake lockup. but it's hard to say, i still might not have been able to stop (i was going 35), and the guy was seriously going for it, not just creeping out. i consider myself lucky to have that be my worst, and especially to have survived my teenage years without totalling anything. ;)
