Worst 2500+ overclock ever...

I ordered an NF7-S V2, SLK-900U, Tornado (running @ 50%), and a Barton2500+, and I cannot seem to get a decent overclock!

Barton is a AQXEA Week30, supposedly one of the best OCing 2500+.

To run at 11x200 (3200+), I have to put a voltage of at least 1.825v, I'm priming at that voltage right now. Anything less fails Prime95. I'm currently running some PC3200 Winbond BH5 chips, so I know my memory is okay.

I've done everything I could think of to try and get this thing to run faster, reinstalled the HSF, replaced the generic paste on the NB. Put the voltages pretty high, lowered my memory timings, searched several forums, and no one else has had a chip thats done worse than mine. Espically any AQXEA Week30.

I know my memory and MB are good, I have gotten into Windows @ 240mhz FSB (with a super low multiplier). Temps are "decent". Nothing to dramatically high, nothing worth bragging about.

I'm going to either assume I got a bad chip, or I somehow am overlooking something in the BIOs, which prevents me from reaching super high clock speeds this chip can take. Any hints or ideas on what to do? I know not every overclock is guaranteed, but I must have a real fluke of a chip compared to others if this thing is bad.

i think i can beat it. first i had a 1800+ thoroughbred B that couldnt do 2ghz no matter what... NOW i have a 2500+ AQXEA week 25 chip that cant do 2.2ghz NO MATTER WHAT!!! can do 2.1ghz it seems but no more! not even 2.166

Your running 2x512 correct?

Bump your Vdimm up to 2.8v

I know you said you tried lower, but did you try default voltage, and 1.7? I've seen some say too much voltgage prevented their oc attempt. They never bothered to try lower.

Is agp locked at 66, ram set at 100%?

If still no go, try 11.5x190.

put vdimm at 2.8 and let it run at 200x11 @ 1.825 V. after a while using it i bet it will it get better. i had to run mine at 200x11 @ 1.8V to get it stable then after a week of use suddenly the temps got a lot better and i can run at 1.75V stable now

Overclocking is the luck of the draw. It's NEVER guaranteed. Quit your whining and get another chip when you give up on this one.

I've seen quite a few posts by people with 2500's who said they couldn't OC as high as they thought they would when "brand new". Many reported finding that after a week or two of burn-in, they mysteriously had much better results!

Looks like 1.825v won't cut it, Prime95 crashed after 13 minutes.

Cow: I've had pretty good luck with my CPUs. I had an AROIA 1600+ that did 1.9ghz, my older Tbred B did 2.2ghz @ 1.8v, but this Barton is a real fluke. I was really hoping for at least 2.4 at about 1.8v, and I can't seem to do 2.3ghz stable at any voltage..

DAPUNISHER: Unfortunatly I believe this is the case, I've got good cooling, a good motherboard, some good memory. Seems like the CPU is just bad.

bjc112: I don't think its the memory, but I guess I'll try that. Is that a known/common problem? These memory chips are pretty good. They've ran 2-2-2-5 timings at high FSBs with no problem. Heck, I even got into Windows with a 240mhz FSB (don't remember the timings). This stuff is only rated for 200!

blade: CPU doesn't do 200x11 on default voltage, prime95 crashes instantly, and spontanous restarts. AGP is at 66mhz, and memory is on "Auto", which should be in sync with the FSB.

Baboon: I just hope somehow, it starts to feel like clocking a bit higher. My AS3 has yet to settle, so I'm expecting lower temps soon. But I don't think it'll be enough to actually give me the overclock i'm looking for.

Well, I know you from these forums and I know you are "in the loop" so when you wrote that you think it's a dud that was good enough for me It is true though that despite the hard facts pm points out in the AT FAQs that debunk "burn-in" as defined by some overclockers through the years, that some do see significantly better results in a few days to a few weeks time. What the reason is who knows? but I had the experience with a CPU myself so whatever the intangible factor/factors is/are, here's hoping you get some lovin' from them

try leaving at that for a week. I have a p4 1.8A that i have at 2.2 on default voltage by slowly stepping it up over time and giving the chip a chance to get used to it.

I have a weird chip too. It's an AQXEA week 27, but I can't reach 2.2Ghz, even @ 1.85v. Maybe it's my memory. I have identical memory to you, but I cannot run 200mhz fsb, even at default timings. I tried 200x9 but it failed prime95. Memtest will run all day @ 220. 198x11, 2-2-2-6 works fine, but I have to keep my chipset voltage cranked to the max.

Remember that if you're using Arctic Silver or its equivalent that the manufacturers say that it will take a couple of days for the compound to "break in". So you should see temp drops and hopefully a better chance at OCing. I'm guessing that the people seeing the better overclock after "burning in" a new processor are actually seeing the thermal compound reaching its "break in" state.

Ugh, I've been seeing post all over about this all week. I'm sorry dude, it happens. Despite my really decent 2.4B chip I just got, my Ti4400 will overclock about 5% . Then my 1.6A that was supposed to be able to do 2.4+ never reached 2.2ghz. Luck of the draw dude. AQXEAs Week 30s are fantastic chips, that's so strange... hrmm maybe you got a fake!
