Who ya got?

Hackers - Starring: Johnny Lee Miller, Angilina Jolie, Matthew Lillard

Cliffs: Rebel Teen hackers take on an oil company's evil IT guy who plans on making $1M by causing an oil spill and killing a bunch of baby seals or some shit like that.

The Net - Starring Sandra Bullock, Dennis Miller

Cliffs: A software programmer has her identity stolen and a floppy disk has some weird program on it that is a backdoor to a government IDS. Some weird shit happens, she is wanted for murder. I can't remember the rest but it is really not important..

Hackers...that was just terrible. I still remember shaking my head when I watched that thing a decade+ ago. Made hacking out to be like you're playing Nintendo, lol.

Hackers is awesome. Even though it really does suck. I think that movie was basically my intro to techno in the mid-90s. Hearing Halcyon+On+On by Orbital opened a whole new world of music to me.

Computers in movies are pretty much absurd by default.

I don't know who decided that everyone in a movie uses their own custom OS and programs with GUI's that utilize enormous graphics and text, respond to problems with things like the entire screen flashing red, ect. Oh, and they beep everytime someone presses a button.

I've only noticed two exceptions: Command line stuff that appears very similar to DOS or Unix (rarely used anymore), or Apple product placement. I can't remember what movie it was where, like, the entire Pentagon used nothing but Macbooks. I found that...slightly curious.

You never seem to see Windows, though. Lawsuit expectations, I guess?

How can you not like a movie where people just talk to each other with phrases like this:

"He's elite!"

It's very possible they are using windows, just not the explorer shell. My desktop didn't look like windows in the least for a long time either, but underneath everything it was. Some people, in real life, actually like customizing the way everything looks, and add custom utilities that might look weird to you. Just because it's in a movie, doesn't mean it isn't real.

This should have a poll!

But I vote Hackers as being worse. The Net was not nearly as corny as Hackers, although there is a forum member here who must have liked hackers enough to use one of their handles as his forum name.
