Hi everyone...I just upgraded my mx420 to a 9800np. Love the card! I see FPS gains in many games, and able to crank the resolution up with AA/AF max, better than the ti4200 did....
But when i started 3dmark2001 to benchmark my new card, I get the same results as the overclocked ti4200(290/600). I did this with settings at default (1024x768)and made sure AA/AF with off(application prefrence i believe) The score hovers around 12,000. It seems quite low since I have a P4 2.66 533mhzFSB with 768mb PC2700 RAM. I used driver cleaner to delete my previous NV files. All my games look and run MUCH better than before but the 3dmark score ticks me off....is there nothing to worrry or is something pulling my score down?

Thank-you

The 9800np isn?t allot faster in DX8 then the Geforce4 Cards and it only shines with new DX9 games with AA and FSAA turned on your score sounds about right for the card if you want to know what your card can really do run 3Dmark2003 and have a look

A Geforce4 Ti4200 overclocked scores 1800 in 3Dmark2003 go by that figure!

Not the old 3Dmark2001 .. remember that 3Dmark 2001 is 3 years old and the level of complexity in 3D games have increased but the overall speed of the old games that 3Dmark2001 use realy on Pure Speed like More Mhz on the GPU and more Memory Bandwidth .. that your ATI9800np doesn?t have allot of!!

Yes it is.

3dmark2k1 is very much a system benchmark and not a real stressful VGA test-that's why you won't see much of a score difference.

Goto your start menu and click 'run'

Type in 'dxdiag' which will bring up your DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

Click on the 3rd tab marked display

Check to see if AGP Texture Acceleration is enabled. If it isn't, enable it. You should see a 15-20% increase in your 3DMark2001SE score.

If that doesn't solve your problem, then try reinstalling your drivers. I had a similar setup as yours before and scored approx

12k with a overclocked Geforce Ti4200
14k+ with a stock Radeon 9700pro (which is close to 9800np in speed).

Its only a benchmark but still there should be a score difference.

Best of luck to you.

Did you move all of your sliders to the left? My overclocked 9800NP that I purchased today did 18,900ish on 3Dmark 2001se with a 2.4C overclocked to 3.01.

That is interesting...i have gone there but the AGP Acceleration is "not available" according to DXdiag....there is no way I can enable it...I'm running on a dell right now, is that why it appears as not available since there isn't any options for the video card in the BIOS?

I appreciate all the help you guys are giving me and I want to thank-you all....but maybe if I am able to fix the problem, I might see a boost in games. :D

I have overclocked the card to 370/307 and gained about 800 more points....bringing the score up to 12800ish

Found out the problem was with DXdiag and the AGP Texture Acceleration....at first i couldn't enable it because for some reason it was "not available". Well, after searching for solutions, I found out that the utility "infinst_enu", found at Intel's website, was my savior....
After I installed it and restarted my system, I went to dxdiag and AGP Texture Acceleration was "enabled" Went to 3dmark2001 and now my new score hovers around 14K at stock speeds...Not only it gave me more speed, but also my desktop look much cleaner and sharper, the picture quality that i now receive is tremendous compared to how it looked like before AGP acceleration enabled...don't know if that is the reason why but these were my results....

Those that are having trouble enabling AGP Texture Acceleration in DXdiag...download "infinst_enu." It's Intel Chipset Software utility...guess it only for Intel users only.. Remember to folow the instructions...I first uninstalled my video card drivers....then installed the infinst_enu file...restarted....installed video drivers back...restarted and problem solved...at least for me...but give it a try if you are having problems...

Thanks everyone for the help...now I can really enjoy my 9800nm now that i know it's running at its full potential :D
