Ok I have avast highjack this, and spybot installed on my pc. I have gotten a worm virus and I havent been able to remove it.

I found most worm removal software is for a specific type of worm. Are there any software out there that can find the bulk of worms that have been created and delete them off my pc. Before it has a chance to destroy files on my pc.
I have 2 different OS
a. Windows 7 64bit
b. WHS fully updated

I have the worm Issue in WHS. It came from opending a .exe file from downloading freeware off the net.

Now my other question is there a software out there that can scan .exe files so if there is a worm it will alert me. I know avg avast and spybot doesnt have such a thing. At least I dont believe it does. Everytime I try to scan it doesnt come up with anything. Then I click and bam its to late.

Any help would be much appreciated ty. If you need any other information please feel free to ask

A run of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware should be able to clean up your machine pretty quickly.

Actually, most up-to-date AV software should detect most worms or viruses in downloaded files. But the effectiveness is going to vary with different AV software and with how long the worm or virus has been "in the wild". You definitely don't want to get to the point where removal is the problem. That's tougher.

Removal of worms or viruses in DATA FILES hasn't, historically, been a big deal. The big problem is usually the detection and repair or removal of contaminated or rogue executable or system files, along with Registry and other entries that keep restoring or restarting the malware.

How much data are we talking about on your WHS server? Are you sure your problem is truly worms or viruses, or is it possible you've another type of malware infection? By far the most common infections nowadays are "spyware" rather than traditional viruses or worms.

viruses are getting very tricky lately. I have a pc I use for playing with various virus and they are getting a bit more cunning in their approaches. People are saying that windows 7 is protected against virus and to an extent it is, but I have come across 3 in the past month that subvert or appear to be targeted specifically at win7 so don't let down your guard just because you are using win7 now. I expect that the more people use win7 the more you will see virus writers adapt. Until MS stops the practice of essentially allowing an installer to place files wherever it likes, expect it to continue to be a problem. Anti virus is great if they have a definition for the virus you have, but if it is a new one, then someone like me who actively looks for new virus has to submit it to the companies before anti virus includes it. That usually takes days to weeks.

Some of the programs I use:
http://www.gmer.net/
http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/
http://www.wireshark.org/

Dec 25th is one of the big virus trigger days for those that use a date to come to life. Been getting emails all day today. The next date is Jan 1st.

That's antivirus software's job. But don't expect it to have anywhere close to a 100% detection rate, because that's not realistic. Don't play with suspicious .EXE files no matter what your antivirus software says. You've already seen why.

my whs was the one that got the worm/virus. I ran avg spybot and windows live one care. It stated it removed all traces of the worm but now I cant open whs console from anywhere. Wheither its that pc or another pc connected to the network. If anyone has any ideas how to fix that I would appreciate to hear it. On the other computers like my windows 7 it shows the icon for the console but doesnt let me connect to it. It also states everything is green.

Run these:

http://www.gmer.net/ - should be able to find it
http://processhacker.sourceforge.net/ - run it and select tools, hidden processes, then scan.

See if either shows something that shouldn't be there.

I asked earlier about how much data is on your WHS. WHS is really easy to re-install from scratch, so that's normally the easiest way to fix a major disaster. Only problem is you'd need to move your data elsewhere temporarily or figure out how to juggle your WHS data disks it a bit if you have multiple disks and multi-Terabyte quantities of data.

I have a total of 3 tb of open space. About 500g is full. I know thats not to much but its still a pain in the arse. Is there are way to guarenntee I wont get infected by another virus. A way I can check a .exe file or rar before I open it to make sure its not infected. I know software like avg has a scan button but it never finds anything. So far this windows live one care seems to work really well. It scans for virus worms spyware it defrag your hardrive and a few other things. I like it alot. I would just really like to find something that can protect me before I open the file.

No, there isn't a surefire way. See my small real-world test here: "But... my antivirus said it was clean!" The point of the article is to demonstrate how foolhardy it is to expect your antivirus software to save you from yourself, or even from the world at large, and suggests additional layers of defense.

It's called Common Sense. STOP running .EXE files you got from P2P or other questionable sources, and you will be protected.

is there a way to 90 percent sure lol. A few friends of mine play around with dark basic with some basic game programming. and I have gotten a virus through that before. I had to hit his exe file to install the software on my pc. also my sister uses a digital camcorder to record video and takes them and makes them into dvd format an iso image so its easier for all of us to make copys of them. is there a way to make sure I dont get any virus from those. Those are the only real downloading that I do besides free ware from time to time.
