World's subways

Martin

Lifer
this is a very interesting site. Here are some highlights:

[*]london the mother of all subways and an incredible 415km in length!
[*]Paris, the densest of all subways (I think it was OT where I read that supposedly there isn't a place in Paris more than 300m away from a subway, total length is 220km.
[*]New York, north america's premier system, total length of 370km.
[*]Moscow 270km long, reportedly the busiest in the world (9m passengers/day!) and distinguished as having stations that are works of art - http://metrowalks.ru/moscow
edit:
[*]Tokyo - a length of 280km, but operated by two different companies 😕
and just to serve as an example of how cool these subways are, consider:
[*]Toronto with a pathetic 72km, a small 5km line which opened 2 years ago and sinfully ugly tiled stations, it reeks of mediocrity.

ha, I can't believe you mentioned Toronto. I was going to say Toronto sarcastically, but seriously, Toronto's is horrible. Their system is falling apart, and they always have to ask for more and more funding just to maintin it. I went to London last year, and I was in awe of their subway system. It looked so confusing (especially compared to Toronto's), but it's so efficient, it gets you anywhere you need to go quick. Toronto's is pretty cheap though (US$2) compared with London's (around 5 pounds or so I think), so I guess you get what you pay for.

Bay Area Rapid Trasit system in the house. We just upgraded all the ticket kiosk. Our BART system may not have the biggest stations or the longest tracks, but it's efficient, on time, and clean.

Hong Kong has a pretty large subway system too. WTF's wrong w/ that site listing just the well known systems?
