Has anyone seen that TV show?

Seems to me that boy should have fused growth plates from lifting before puberty. That and his father apparantly was feeding him some kind of nasty steroid.

Its my understanding that excessive lifting prematurely causes bone endings to fuse shut, and steroids causes stunted growth as well.
As well, the effort one puts out causes the body to put resources to taking the abuse you are sending it, rather than growing.. which also stunts growth.

At the end of the show, the show him doing some shots for the Tiny Tarzan movie, and the KID IS 13. And is way, way short IMO.

Way shorter than I was at 13.. and my cousin is 13 and 5'7" already (he'd tower over that boy).

Any fitness professionals here that have seen the show?

it's not necessarily that lifting stunted his growth, but i really suspect that the boy was given steroids. steroids would stimulate the epiphyseal plates in the boy's long bones. he said that he was given "shakes" and if they're not lying about injectables, the only oral steroids that i can think of off the top of my head are dbol and primobolan.

he does seem short for his age, especially considering that both of his parents are taller than average.

I saw in the news a LONG time ago a little girl, maybe 7 or 8, that could lift her 250 pound dad. She was definately a man. It was gross. Hmm now that I think about it, it was really gross.

Anyway my penis is |----------------------------this----------------------------| much longer than his.

the one i was thinking about was androstenedione (or "andro" to weightlifters).

it was popular when i was competively weightlifting in the late 90s. i think andro is about as extreme as you can get legally.. i have not heard of those two you mentioned.
i dont know much about steroids as i only used creatine (and only for a short amount of time due to it creating joint pains due to not enough water), and quit taking that as i believe if you cant do it naturally.. it isnt worth doing.

i was 160lbs and benched 275lbs.. which is good for my weight class.
that boy did 220lbs max i believe.. but that is simply unreal for someone so far from puberty.
his definition and mass was so extreme for ANY age, that i knew he was on steroids before they even revealed it.

I'm sure he was given something much worse than Andro or anything else on the market.

It was prob something from the blackmarket from their home nation of ukraine.

Sucks that he'll probably die of a heart attack before he's even old enough to collect on any money he gets from publicity/movies.

He does not look as abused as you make it sound. I was expecting a Mr America type figure.

I sort of take that back looking at some of his other pictures.

You're probably right considering how much juice this kid has to be on.

I saw it on TV not too long ago. One of the "doctors" said that Richard was using steroids, because you need testosteron to produce muscles, and at the age he started, there usually isn't much.

Watch that Hand Technique video, he has a crazy spin move that reminds me of a Tekken fighter.

Not by sitting behind a computer.
But steroids with hours of workout 5 days a week.

You can get pretty good with just a healthy diet and the same workout.
You just wont get the "mr. universe" look that he has in some of those pics and on the documentary.

I think he is off 'roids now.. and I'm sure he relies heavily on his old pics from 6-12 years old to make him appear more impressive than he is now.

Because he could not possibly maintain the level he once was without the steroids.

If baseball players and the like could perform the same without steroids.. they wouldnt use them. same for guys like these.

I'd rather be a man, than inject one into my veins.

But this little guy was just exploited by his father for money.

I remember Andro. Yeah, that was as legally close as a product can get to steroids. The two i mentioned are more hardcore steroids.

i mean, to build that much muscle you need testesterone. boys around 6-7 years old don't naturally produce the amount of testosterone needed to get that strong. in that show they said he lifted 3x his weight. i think he weighed something like 75 lbs and lifted 240lbs.

on a side note, creatine is as natural as protein (IMHO). it's a product found in red meat. but definitely not good if a person doesn't drink enough water.

edit: if his growth is indeed stunted, maybe they can talk with a doctor about going on a growth hormone treatment so that he can get closer to his natural height. that's if his plates haven't fully closed... then he's gonna be that short for the rest of his life.

Or bone therapy where they break your long bones and leave them just far enough so your body grows them back together.. they can give you 1-2 inches a year with this method IIRC.

but its painful

i always wondered if i stunted my growth (i'm 5'8") because i started lifting a LOT when i was 13.. but was never really on any supplements.

and i've been 5'8" since i was about 13.
i worked myself so hard my body was tired all the time, and never really had time to recover.

i'd take a month off every year, and my muscles would get so big during that month. i had blue stretch marks all over my chest and on my biceps.

i always wondered if my body never had time to continue growing cuz i wore it out all the time and it was recovering muscles ect.

my dad is 6' and mom is 5'8".. but alot of my extended family is my height.
strange thing is, in my direct line my grandfather is 5'8", ggrandfather was 6'3" and GGgrandfather (this is like the 1800s) was 6'.

But, you never know what you are going to get i guess.

i'd rather have my drive and determination than be 6'3" 250lbs and a lazy POS.
unfortunately, being recently married, i'm 5'8" 185lbs and a lazy POS. :D

if one is determined, you can be stronger than ppl much larger than you. most ppl go their whole lives and dont see what they could be physically if they worked hard enough.

now im into guns so all this is a moot point.

right now his webpage shows the kid at 12 1/2 yrs old, 100lbs and 4'10".. that does not seem right unless hes a "late bloomer" and how convienent.. the late bloomer took steroids. :p
the bloom might not ever come.

its not the size that would bother most, but the loss of size in his member.
thats the true crime here.

They had this kid on some daytime news show a few weeks back. His father got in trouble for abusing the kid (mentally and/or physically, I forget which), and so the boy's workout schedule has been scaled WAY back. I think he's only allowed to do push-ups/sit-ups and his karate now; no more weight training until he's somewhere around 16 years old. That explains why he isn't quite as insanely-built anymore.

Sucks to be short. I'm 20 and 5'4, thats right, 5'4.

Edit: That kid looks more normal now than he was when he was 8.

thats not that bad.

i know a kid with silversteen's disease (sp?) and he is way shorter than that. plus his face is sunken in and he has no muscle tone.

5'4" doesnt shock me.. you must not live around where there are mexicans.. they are that short or shorter alot of times.
you wouldnt appear out of ordinary in NYC or asian countries either.

if you are a white or black guy, ya its out of the ordinary.. but overall i am not amazed at how short that is.

Lifting has nothing to do with stunting bone growth unless you injure yourself severely enough to damage epiphyseal plates. I haven't seen the TLC show, I'm familiar with the kid though. Saw him recently on 20/20 where the mother denied the steroids accusation. If his father did give him some form of testosterone, that was extremely stupid and may well have stunted his growth.

My theory on the kid was that he would end up short for another reason, he was always so uber-ripped that all those good growing hormones (GH, insulin, later testosterone) had to have been at rock bottom levels. On 20/20 it looked like he has finally put on a little fat now that his dad is out of the picture, maybe he'll be OK physically. Too bad he's already been so psychologically screwed over.
