Worlds of Magic - Kickstarter sequel to Master of Magic

Some of you are too young to have played the amazing fantasy/Civilization hybrid game Master of Magic, but I fondly remember it as one of the best strategy games ever. Worlds of Magic is a project to make a spiritual successor; the project appears to already be underway but they are Kickstarting for additional funds to finish the game (FYI 1£ is about $1.50 US).

Currently the Kickstarter is about 2/3 of the way there and they have an artist who worked on MoO and MoM working on this game. I'm thinking about pledging. Just $18 gets you the game and beta access.

Looks at lot like Heroes of Might and Magic?

HoMM (which came later than MoM) has some similarities to MoM but was more focused on heroes and tactical-level combat rather than the grand strategy and global spells that MoM allowed. Plus MoM allows you to build new cities and research like Civ.

I'll think about it pledging to it. I would love to have a real successor to MoM, I still fire it up and play it now and then, but I think I've exhausted most of the possibilities of wizards in that game. Think there's a good chance the game will look better when it's released?

Elemental was supposed to be the successor but that turned into a steaming pile of dung. Fallen Enchantress was better but still had many flaws.

I never was very happy with warlock's ai; also in late game they could use a few options to speed things up (esp animation which take forever if you have a lot of troups). The game seems to not have gotten a lot of love lately from the developer.

I think FE has been the most true successor to MoM. Not completely without it's problems, but it was pretty good overall. Frankly, MoM was a *horribly* balanced game, so there are nostalgia glasses going on here.

Paradox's Warlock: Master of the Arcane has been the best MoM successor to date IMO.
No tactical combat.

The closest (to date) game to MoM was the Age of Wonders series.

Always seemed like MoM-HoMM hybrid to me, although I did like it very much. Fortuantely, they're working on a new one too that looks great!

Oh sure, there were some balance issues (Halfling Slingers!) but that didn't stop it from being a great game.

I still need to get Fallen Enchantress. Does it also include everything that was in Elemental?

Much of the game was redone. While they didn't take any particular feature away that I can think of, a lot the game mechanics are quite different. Fallen Enchantress is far more FUN than Elemental, but it is far from perfect.

Thanks for posting! There aren't enough 4x games that aren't set in space (I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate MoO clones) or called Civilization. Looking forward to this!!
