There's a documentary that shows how our troops are having to work with tribal warlords and child rapists, who they have to abide as they are in the afghan government.

Afghanistan was mishandled very badly. This is what happens when you value the nebulous idea of democracy over what is best for the people of the country.

Yes that country is a mess. But we have not and are not spending trillions rebuilding Afghanistan. The vast majority of what we have spent in the global war on terror has gone to military expenditures and blowing things up not rebuilding.

Thanks to the help of the CIA and their black money for opium trade. I see Libya is well on its way to being a clusterfuck too. Maybe one day theses fuckers will get a clue that nation building doesn't work.

Well, at least we don't live in Sierra Leone. It is voted the worst country in which to live every year year after year. I imagine North Korea is a close second.

It's interesting how bombing the hell out of a country and then rebuilding it seems to do wonders sometimes (Japan) and causes nightmares in others.

The culture of the indigenous people makes all the difference. The Japanese have a long feudal history and getting accustomed to new rulers was common place. They accept it and move on.

Afghanistan was dysfunctional long before we got there and will be dysfunctional long after we leave. You can't make a stone age culture into a modern culture short of genocide..... as Americans we know this because that is how we created our country.
