Interesting. Some books I read a few years ago, such as Hyperspace by Michio Kaku, predicted that we were hundreds of years away from any form of time travel.

Even, if its possible I bet the government would march into this guy's house and break down the time machine before he use it for his own purpose.

I don't know about that, a good portion of academic research is funded by government grants.

If time travel were ever made possible, wouldn't we be seeing its effects now? I mean, wouldn't we be seeing the things sent back to our time?

Certain horrors in our history would have been avoided. Religion would be debunked. Do I need to go on?

When I was young I remember thinking that UFOs, and aliens were evolved humans attempting time travel. I was a weird little kid. It just seemed a little more likely than someone covering the vast distances between stars.

And on top of that..............why just now???

Based on realization?? If so, then why not when Einstein first proposed it???

As Mallet mentions, if we're bending time in a loop (assuming this CAN be done) then people from the future could go back in time anywhere.

Of course then you start the mind-bending conundrums.........

If they travel via a 4th dimension............are they really within time??

What is time???

(Brain explodes........Scanners'-style) :p

Or maybe it was to the traveler's advantage to CREATE those horrors and see to it that religion was created?

"Hey, you. What's your name? Jesus? Right on. Here... I need you to do something for me...."

Ohhhh... the possibilities of this conversation are endless.

How do we even know that the horrors in the past weren't created by those travelling back in time from the future? Think about that for a minute. :p

I'm thinking that if time travel was possible, we wouldn't have seen the effects of it since most likely you would go to a parallel universe. It would share all the same characteristics as this one but just not be this one. But then that would mean there would be an infinite amount of parallel universes which means you aren't really traveling so much through time as you are to a place. Kind of hard to conceptualize

Invoking such a large occurance might delay the creation of such a traveling device, or, perhaps, stop it from being realized altogether.

Time would be way too sensitive for this ever to be practiced.

I was just about to say something to that effect. You would want to preserve history so that you don't ......................................................

If you go back in time and stop a horror from happening, it will not have happened. Which would mean that you would have no knowledge of it happening. Which would mean that you wouldn't go back in time to prevent it. Which would mean that it happened. Which would mean you'd go back and prevent it. Which would mean it didn't happen. Which would mean you wouldn't know to go back and prevent it. Which would mean that it would happen....

Wow, look at that. Logic from a Christian. ;)

Oh, I remember now ... big trick to actual time travel 9not my joke above) is that it would take insanes amount of power to pull off. We're talking more power than teh world uses in a day.

Ok, that was corny; twisting space with lasers? Maybe there's something I don't know, but... :disgust:

Exactly. Even if laws were put in place to dissuade people from traveling back in time, someone would always be there to break it.

Let's not forget that even the smallest change could cause great effects. I mean, if I were to die here and now because someone came back in time and accidentally bumped into me, and I fell and broke my neck. The cure for cancer may be delayed, because some day, my then wife might re-marry and they eventually have kids. Later down the road, one of those kids gets a brand new car for his 18th birthday and kills the guy who assisted whoever came up with the cure.

Oops?
