Its sure a hell lot of bandwidth to compress, transport and re-encode in real time over the limited bandwidth of USB 3.0....

Although its only 4K @ 30 Hz...its nevertheless quite impressive for a el cheapo laptop/desktop/tablet to drive a 4K projector!

Kind of pointless, though the bandwidth is there. With that amount of lag it'll only be good for presentations.

For the price, you might as well buy a GTX 750.

I'm pretty sure the primary target is not for desktop computers (because, as you say, it would make more sense to add in another video card), but this does make a ton of sense for things like laptops and tablets where you can't exactly add in another video card and are often extremely limited in terms of external ports.

At any rate, this is a niche product, and will especially be niche after we get DP over USB and/or wider adoption of Thunderbolt

Not sure lol but to be fair these adapter are not meant for cutting edge performance but maybe targeted to business/productivity users? This company makes other USB video cards like this - http://ca.startech.com/AV/USB-Video...Card-Multi-Monitor-Adapter-1920x1080~USB32HDE

I think their target audience is the business IT users who maybe wants to quickly add a multi-monitor capabilities to several systems at once, without having to take them apart to install dedicated GPUs - imagine the time and labor saved when dealing with dozens or hundreds of computers.

1080p TN 1080p Gamer`s don`t know what they are missing.
