World's Crappiest 1.2 Tbird

Well, I got my 1.2 in this weekend running on the Abit KT7A-Raid, and the thing doesn't like to run at anything over 1200. I think I may have to redo the L1 's because when I set the multiplier to 12.5, it changes the bus to 104 too!! Also, when I look at the default voltage settings, the core is at 1.85, and the IO voltage is at 3.4!!! Isn't that supposed to be at 3.3? Any way, I can boot at about 1250-1300, but its a matter of 15-20 min before it locks in 3D appz. Kinda sucks for me to see everyone else getting so lucky. ANy ideas? 😉

Yep, it was a green core too... dated 0052. Right now, I'm running at 1234=8.5*145. I turned down all the memory settings, and will try to increase them gradually.... At least I know its not my mobo

Something smells here. Austin is not known to be producing 1.2 cpus, although this is not the first 'green' 1.2 that I've heard of. The default voltage is suspect although some mobos read high. Blown L1's are very suspicious. Did you look at your L7s to see if they had been connected ??

No, i never saw if the L7's were connected or not. Right now, I seem to have a decently stable 9*138 w/ memory settings cranked. My memory doesn't seem to want to go any higher w/ CAS 2, Turbo settings, and 4-way on, so thats where I'll leave the bus. Kinda sucks, but oh well. Sandra mem scores are 528/581...

I'm using an Alpha PAL6035 w/ Artic Silver. During normal usage, the VIA HM reports the core at 80 deg F and the case at 66 deg F. When I run RC5, it jumps to 115 deg F, and levels off there. I'm sure heat isn't an issue though, it just seems like I have a wimpy CPU.

A KNOWN problem with the new abit WW bios version...setting the multiplier to 12.5 causes the fsb to be set @ 104 ... maybe you did do the penciling correctly...maybe you should consider a more permanent method.

Shouldn't you be running it @ 8.5*133 if you are using an ABIT KT7A?

I bought a 1.2ghz T-Bird from Allstarcomponents as well, with a blue core, and have had no overclocking success either. It may be me though, because this is my first attempt. Here are the stats:

ABIT KT7A RAID
1.2ghz T-Bird
PAL6035 w/ Artic Silver & YS Tech 60mm fan
Mushkin Rev3 ram

I can get it up to about 1280-1290, but not any higher? Do you think it's Allstarcomponents ????? It's VERY possible that it's me though because I have no experience in OCing.

Well, I'm currently running at 1234MHz...My CPU can go to about 1250 or so, but I'd rather have the memory settings cranked than get an extra 20-30 mhz out of my cpu.... 1234=137*9

I doubt it is Allstar Components... just maybe an unlucky bunch of 1.2's
