I was digging around in my fridge this morning and noticed some milk that needed to be used up. I was thinking about what I could use it in and decided on some hot cocoa. (This shall be referred to from now on as mistake #1)

At that point I started looking for some chocolate. All I could find were some chololate chips. Hey, they're chocolate, right? (mistake #2)

After melting the chocolate chips in with the milk I was ready for a taste. It wasn't quite up to my standards and I went for the sugar, salt and vanilla. (mistake #3)

It wasn't horrible but after realizing that I had 5 cups of it to go I just dumped it down the drain.

Moral of the story: if you have some old milk you need to get rid of, you are probably better off leaving it in the fridge until it explodes than trying to make hot cocoa out of it.

: Puke;

I guess the point was that I wanted cocoa, but the only ingredient I had was milk. I kind of made up the rest. If I had cocoa mix or marshmallows or anything else like that it probably would have been very enjoyable.

Oh, and mose made-from-scratch cocoa recipes call for a dash of salt.
http://www.cooksrecipes.com/beverage/favorite-hot-cocoa-recipe.html (don't click if you hate flashing banner ads)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup hot water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 cups milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix cocoa, sugar, water and salt in a saucepan. Over medium heat, stir constantly until mixture boils. Cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
Stir in the milk and heat, but do not boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla; blend well. Serve immediately.
Makes 4 servings.

4 cups of good hot cocoa:
4 Tbsp cocoa (baking will do, but not preferable)
4 cups milk
sugar to tase (probably at leasy 6 teaspoons--I like it just to the point of not being bitter). Honey works good, too.
1/2 tsp butter

Heat on medium. When it mixes well, turn the heat down and let it continue for 10-15 minutes. It will get less powdery if you taste it as it goes.
Then serve. I personally don't like it if the milk actually boils.
