World Series of Poker Main Event

It starts tomorrow, and the turnout is ridiculous. It's been capped at 2600 people, 2450 slots have been filled, and there's still a massive line out the door for satellites. Looks like first prize is gonna be over 5 million. Anybody else looking forward to following this over the next week?

yep, still 10k. Didn't win any of the online stuff to pay for me, so I'm just a spectator this year. I've been following all the prelim stuff, turnout's been massive all around.

Who are you picking for the final table? I'm thinking Phil H. will be there (as usual), but won't finish top-5 (his curse ever since he won it). I'd like to see Phil Ivey win it all this year. 🙂

If I had to pick 3 names, I'd say Cloutier, Negreanu, and Scott Fischman. All of them have won this year, Fischman in the first NL event, and they've all been playing well. If I had to take somebody though, I'd take the field. 2600 people, somebody's gonna get lucky. I'm predicting another Moneymaker story this year.

Cloutier, huh? I haven't seen him much this year -- every final table I've seen him at he's been on the SS. Negreanu is fun to watch, but seems too prone to tilt for me to really enjoy his game. If I had to pick one person I'd choose to win it, it would be Lederer. He's a class act, and is good for poker. Though if Slim or Dolly bought in to the tournament I'd enjoy seeing them win too. 😀

They'll both play, though who knows how well they'll do. Lederer will probably do well, he's moneyed 3-4 times, no bracelets though. It's gonna be fun watching it on ESPN, they covered a bunch more events in addition to the main event. We'll finally get to see some 7stud and Omaha on TV... gonna be interesting how they cover it, what with the odds and everything.

I'm looking at the page on ESPN, but there's no infomation on how to get into the main event itself as a player, is there another site for that kind of info?

You walk into Binion's, you plop down 10k in cash, you get a little slip, and you wait to be called as an alternate. I've been getting my live updates from Pokerpages and Pokervoice.

Literally hundreds of the world's press turned out today to witness the scenes at the WSOP 2004 at the Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas. The event gets under way tomorrow and there are already over 2200 players signed up and paid in. The current cap is 2600 and it looks like there could be a shutout for some players, all eager to get a piece of the main event prizepool of over $25,000,000. The first place prize is expected to be $5,000,000.
