Anyone watch World Poker Tour last night on the Travel Channel? That was crazy. Laak got so lucky! I don't know much about Poker so someone clue me in. Why did the players last night go all in so many times? Even when they had crap they went all in. It was craziness.

its not all about the hand you have, its about how well you play, and how well you can bluff

I didnt think it was legal doing what he was doing. You know, getting so close to the dealer, peeking at what card(s) were going to come out on the flop, turn and river.

It was legal, though he was definitely pushing it. Beyond his two big mistakes (KT vs. AA and K7 vs JJ -- the AT vs. 55 was even money), he played very well -- his game was to play for first, not for second/third/whatever.

There's always some amount of luck involved. Because of his unique style, he encouraged action, which really benefited him in the later stages.

Overall, it was my favorite WPT to watch so far. :D

Unibomber guy deserves to be kicked in the head for doin that. Sure it makes for good ratings and gets the crowd going and it's not illegal, but have some common poker etiquette. :|

WPT appears to have some pretty relaxed rules. I haven't been to a Poker room at a casino before but I imagine you would get kicked out really fast if you did what Laak was doing, such as getting up out of your seat all the time and doing what you described.

WPT lets players do that probably because the crowd likes that kind of stuff. If it were just a bunch of men sitting around quietly making decisions, some people in the crowd might get bored.

Most, if not all, of the crowd is comprised of people playing in the tournaments earlier, their friends, and their family. Most of 'em understand how boring poker really can be. :D

I agree that he crossed the line, but none of the others commented about it -- and I'd rather see Phil Laak do that than Phil Helmuth do his "thing" (AKA whining incessantly). :D

At a poker room, yes. Tournament rules are more relaxed/different in general. You're looking for any small advantage over a short period of time, and some people go through great lengths to make themselves appear crazy, put their opponents on tilt, etc.

It probably helped that the tournament was a "celebrity" tournament, so everyone involved was expecting a bit more drama/action.
