Help me understand this, as I haven't played wow since the first expansion... Where does this say that you get all the expansions besides the newest one? Is it just the fact that you can level to 90?

this is a more recent thing. last year blizzard included everything up to cataclysm on all accounts and in the battle chest. now they upgraded everyone up to mists of pandaria and that is also included in the battle chest too.
