World of Warcraft - Poor 7800GTX KO Performance (!)

I have a new eVGA 7800GTX KO that runs wonderfully in OTHER games.

I have a fresh Windows install, a A64 800+ x2 overclocked to 2550 and I use the WinLauncher XP programmed to dual cores (and I've tried it without.)

I have 1 gig of TCCD RAM.

Supposedly a top notch system.

But World of Warcraft has slow frame rates - and in a RAID, it's almost like a very fast slide-show effect.

When I travel with my XPS2 laptop (6800go) the game is smooth as butter. And I have the same settings on both machines!!

I bumped down to 24 bit color, 24 bit depth, 1x multisample

1. Are you using the newest nvidia drivers?
2. Are your chipset drivers up to date?
3. Have you installed the special driver for the X-2?
4. Have you tried setting affinity?

Where specifically do you have issues and at what resolution are you running WoW at? I run at 1920x1080 with EVERY DETAIL on and then some. Runs like a champ except where my system has to access the HDD or Network slowdown caused by Blizz lag.

Hi, thanks for the response. I have a Dell 2000FP so I run at 1600x1200. I use the beta 81.33 drivers. I did install an Athlon x2 driver - or so I thought - based on the thread in the CPU forum. However, the program said nothing about 'x2' it only had Athlon 64 everywhere. In fact the readme title says "AMD Athlon? 64/Sempron?/Turion? 64/Opteron? Processor Driver Version 1.2.2 (Windows® XP, Windows® Server 2003)" but down lower it says that 1.2 added support for multi-processor, so I hope this is the right driver. I'm not exactly sure what 'setting affinity' means. 😕

My latest theory is that I have an add-on issue. I have cosmos as a main add-on but I've customized it by using perl and a few others from Ultimate UI that I've installed manually. I tried loading with just flexbar and it seems very very smooth however it's also not exactly primetime at Ironforge at 7:09am 😀

try 81.84. I had the same the problem when I used the driver you are using. But after I updated it to 81.84, problem solved

Try to get the drivers off of the "official" sites. Getting a CPU driver off of an online forum doesn't seem like a smart idea to me.
You can also check up on the GTX and mobo bios updates.

I have silky-smooth performance in Half-Life 2, GTA:San Andreas, Far Cry, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. With detail maxed up.

I have silky-smooth peformance in WoW too - UNTIL I hit 20-30 person RAIDs, specifically Molten Core and Zul'Gurub. When the fighting starts and there are different varied spells and animations, the performance at that point really slows down.

Now I've tried disabling many add-ons going into the RAIDS and this does in fact help. But, my Dell XPS2 laptop is still smoother. I use the same settings - AND I use the same add-ons. When I get home from a trip, I copy them back and forth.

In fact, my laptop has more "junk" on it such as Microsoft Office, McAffee full strength firewall and anti-virus, which my desktop is not even running (no firewall, no anti-virus)...

I am using 81.84 video drivers.

I also did load the A64 driver as noted above.

I would move your WTF / WDB folders, then recustomize it accordingly (save the folders, as it has your settings like macros, etc.). Try that.

I might see the problem - I think AMD sold you a chip with 3.000 fewer Intel-Equivalent thingies than normal...or it could be a typo. Either way good luck.

WTF?

I was making a joke - OP listed his processor as a 800+X2 rather than a 3800+X2. AMD doesn't use clockspeed to name their chips though, so sice I couldn't say "3 gigahertz slower" I made up a term.

For anyone interested - I'm not sure what fixed my problem ...with the advent of the 1.8 patch (and notes in the official docs talking about LAG reduction in heavily travelled places) forced me to switch to a new UI. I have bumped up all detail settings and I'm up to the max 24 bit color and 4x AA and everything is silky smooth.

I was forced into a new UI because the 1.8 patch blew up many add-ons.

the UI that I am using now is Insomniax, and even then I had to patch 3 modules that were out of date - Auctioneer, Ace, and CT_Raid.

Everything is silky smooth except for zul-gurub which is a bit laggy. While I would describe "a bit laggy" other people were disconnecting. I think that Zul Gurub is just really really rough on the resouces...

so I believe that my problems were either an obscure resolved bug within the WoW code or a UI problem that I had with my old UI
